Born in 1983 in Madison, Wisconsin.<br />

Training:<br />

Bavarian State Opera Young Artists Programme (2008-2010); Glimmerglass Opera Young American Artist<br />

Program (2007-2008); The Music Academy of the West (2006; Marilyn Horne, Director); Opera Theatre of<br />

St. Louis Gerdine Young Artist Program (2005-2006); Bachelor of Music, Voice Performance, Oberlin<br />

Conservatory of Music (2005).<br />

Vocal studies with John Norris and Marlene Rosen amongst others. Current teacher: Margreet Honig.<br />

Competitions and Awards:<br />

Finalist at the 30 th International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition 2011; 3 rd Place at the Concours<br />

Ernst Haefliger 2010; finalist at the Montserrat Caballé International Singing Competition, the International<br />

Vocalisten Concours in 's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, and the Houston Grand Opera Eleanor McCollum<br />

Competition; 2 nd Place, Region, at The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions; Founder’s Award of<br />

the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis Gaddes Fund for Young Singers; Concerto Award Winner of the Oberlin<br />

Conservatory Concerto Competition; First Prize and Audience Favorite Award of the Opera Guild of Dayton<br />

Opera Annual College Competition.<br />

First engagements in the United States include Top in The Tender Land at Madison Opera, Dancaïro and<br />

Moralès in Carmen at Toledo Opera, George Jones in Street Scene and Fiorello in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with<br />

Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro at the Oberlin Conservatory, Angelo<br />

in Das Liebesverbot at Glimmerglass Opera, Vicar in Albert Herring at the Oberlin Conservatory as well as<br />

Pfleger des Orest in Elektra in concert with The Cleveland Orchestra. Other concert appearances: Vaughan<br />

Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem with the Oberlin Orchestra; Fauré‘s Requiem and Schubert‘s Mass No. 2 in<br />

G Major with the Cleveland Youth Orchestra; Handel’s Messiah, Stravinsky’s Requiem Canticles, Vaughan<br />

Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols with The Cleveland Orchestra.<br />

2008/09 and 2009/10 member of Bavarian State Opera’s Young Artists Programme.<br />

Roles in Munich include L’officier in Dialogues des Carmélites, Bishop of Fiesoli/Chapel Singer/Apparition<br />

of music-master in Palestrina, Brabantine Noble in Lohengrin, Petrucci in Lucrezia Borgia, the Wig-maker<br />

in Ariadne auf Naxos, Jazz Trio <strong>Baritone</strong> in Trouble in Tahiti, Commissario in Madama Butterfly, Flemish<br />

Deputy in Don Carlo; Agent #4 (Count) in Intrigo internazionale (KV 492), an experimental theatre<br />

performance inspired by musical and dramatic themes from Le nozze di Figaro, written by Johannes Müller;<br />

Guglielmo in Così fan tutte and Dandini in La Cenerentola in Opera Studio productions as well as Bach‘s<br />

Christmas Oratorio with Bavarian State Orchestra‘s Youth Orchestra.<br />

He sang the title role in Don Giovanni in a semi-staged performance at the Philharmonie Bad Reichenhall<br />

and Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia for Munich Kulturgipfel GmbH.<br />

November 2010 to May 2011 part-season contract at the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck, Austria.<br />

Since the 2011/12 season Todd Boyce is a member of the opera company at the Lucerne Theatre,<br />

Switzerland.<br />

Roles in Lucerne in 2011/12: Demetrius in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor and<br />

Mukhtada, the Baker, in the world premiere of Simon Wills‘ The Stolen Smells.<br />

In the summer 2012 he returned to Innsbruck to sing Sid in Albert Herring (directed by Brigitte<br />

Fassbaender).<br />

Howard Arman, Bertrand de Billy, John DeMain, Asher Fisch, James Gaffigan, Stephen Lord, Fabio Luisi,<br />

Kent Nagano, Kirill Petrenko, Robert Porco, Eugene Tzigane, Juraj Valcuha, Christopher Ward, Franz Welser-<br />

Möst, Dean Williamson, Simone Young amongst others.<br />

Ken Cazan, John Copley, Brigitte Fassbaender, Robin Guarino, Sam Helfrich, Schorsch Kamerun, Tobias<br />

Kratzer, Dominique Mentha, James Robinson, Arpád Schilling, Alexander Schulin, Thaddeus Strassberger,<br />

Dmitri Tcherniakov amongst others.<br />

Future projects include:<br />

Giorgio Germont in La Traviata, Niceros in Satyricon, Eumete in Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria, Dandini in<br />

La Cenerentola in Lucerne; in September 2012 he makes his debut at the Lucerne Festival with works by<br />

Joseph Marx, Hugo Wolf and Giovanni Pergolesi; he returns to the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra for Puccini’s<br />

Messa di Gloria and a New Year’s Concert.<br />
