What can synthetic biology achieve? Potential applications of synthetic biology range verywidely across scientific and engineering disciplines,from medicine to energy generation. For example,designed microorganisms might be capable ofproducing pharmaceutical compounds that areextremely challenging for existing methods ofchemical or biological synthesis.
