Job Title:Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher 8 in MARE-WINTDamage detection in metallic and composite structures for offshore applicationsEuraxess Job ID 33832258http://ec.europa.eu/euraxess/index.cfm/jobs/jobDetails/33832258IMP PANThe Institute has been founded in 1956 (with its first organisational structures in 1953). It wasdestined to conduct fundamental research in the area of principles of operation, design, construction and development of machinery for energy conversion in flows. Presently, theinvestigations are being carried out in the following fields: fluid mechanics, multiphase flows, thermodynamics and heat transfer, plasma physics, laser technique, machine mechanics, structural health monitoring (SHM), non–destructive testing (NDT) and dynamics ofstructures. The IMP–PAN belongs to the Polish Academy of Sciences. It employs over 200people (over 140 scientific researchers including 20 professors, 45 post doctoral scientists). The Institute was founded in 1956.The researcher will be employed in the Department of Mechanics of Intelligent Structures. The group specialises in various structural health monitoring techniques, vibration control, damage assessment, structural dynamics, composite structures, fracture mechanics, workingin these fields both theoretically and experimentally. In the past two years the research wasfocused on the development and use of the Guided Wave–Based Method for damageassessment as well as smart materials applications. The department was involved inorganisation of international conferences: DAMAS (Gdansk, PL 2005, Torino, IT 2007),ECCOMAS (Gdansk, PL 2007), EWSHM (Krakow, PL 2008).Within the Marie Curie ITN project MARE-WINT, the Mechanics of Intelligent StructuresDepartment of IMP PAN has an open position of Early Stage Researcher (duration 35months) in: Detection of damage in metallic and composite structures for offshoreapplications. Please find the original posting on:http://www.imp.gda.pl/en/employment-offers/Responsibilities:The specific position involves participation in MARE-WINT research tasks with a main focuson measurement with thermal imaging methods and Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensortechnology for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of Offshore Wind Turbine (OWT). Theaim of research will be development of techniques that allow to distinguishing signal inducedby damage from signal caused from the environmental changes. The aim of research will bealso a determination of optimal number and location of transducers for SHM system.Dedicated software will be developed for signal processing and pattern recognition and willbe validated through an experimental plan under secondment to Fibresensing and GdanskShipyard.Next to the technical research tasks, the researcher will disseminate his/her results to thescientific and industrial R&D community, and participate to the organization of projecttraining activities, contributing to organizing her/his knowledge with the junior projectresearchers. With the accepted candidate, a Personal Career Development Plan in line with theMARE-WINT project objectives (see http://www.marewint.eu) and background/interest ofthe candidate will be defined.
