Journalists’ Security in War Zones: Lessons from SyriaAPPENDIX 2Recommendations to Press FreedomOrganisations- Prepare updated documents, made availableonline, that outline a range of different issuesof concern to journalists operating in conflictzones. These include, but are not limited to:• Types of insurance (including pricing)• Types of trainings (including pricing)• Information on safety andcommunications equipment (includingprice and sales points)• Information on psychological support,treatment and advice centres- Organise regular meetings with media outletsto raise awareness about safety in the field.- Organise regular and affordable hostileenvironment, online security and first aidtrainings for journalists.- Set up a collection point close to countriesin conflict so that journalists can rent/buynecessary equipment (including bullet-proofjackets, helmets, satellite, trackers, etc.).- Cooperate with journalists, news outlets andmedia professionals’ unions to compile a list ofrates paid by news outlets for freelance content.30
