<strong>Ottawa</strong> <strong>County</strong> Probate and Juvenile CourtPosition VacancyDivision/Department: Probate and Juvenile CourtsLocation: Based out of <strong>Ottawa</strong> <strong>County</strong> Courthouse, 315 Madison St., Port Clinton, OH<strong>Job</strong> title: Deputy Clerk Probate/Juvenile CourtReports to: Lori Clune, Court AdministratorClassification:Non-ExemptType of position:Full-timeHours: 35/week8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., 1 hour unpaidlunchSalary Range: $13.00 - $15.00/hourGeneral <strong>Description</strong>:Under general supervision, performs a variety of legal procedures relating to the preparationand processing of court cases. May rotate through a variety of operational-needs assignments.Work performed: File court documents and receipts fines and fees payments; Balance and reconcile daily cash receipts; Respond to inquiries from legal and law enforcement community and general public; Research automated and hard-copy files for case status information; Enter case information into an automated case management system; Generate court documents; Draft correspondence in reply to requests for case inquiries, record inspections or recordsearches; Provide secure administrative and clerical support as assigned; and Provide effective customer-service to the public, judicial officers, attorneys or staff.Duties: Schedule appointments, meetings and hearings; Collect or compile statistical data; Prepare for and record hearings and prepare the documentation that results fromhearings. Assist Judge and court personnel in the courtroom as needed; Interact and maintain professional working relationships with other agencies forinformation gathering and sharing, program resources and referrals (i.e., schoolrepresentatives, protective services, law enforcement, prosecutor’s office, etc.).Qualifications/Skill Requirements:1. High school or GED with a minimum one (1) year of experience in court casemanagement, in a legal setting or other relevant experience to provide knowledge, skillsand abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.


2. Ability to identify and/or create a program or process that will improve the efficiency ofoperations cost-saving benefits to the operations of the court;3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, as well as database programs; proficiency inthe court management software used in the probate and juvenile court. The ability to usemultiple computer applications and independent judgment in verifying the accuracy ofthe information being processed required.4. General and basic skills in mathematics and simple accounting or bookkeeping.5. Strong oral and written communication and organizational skills.6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with attorneys and other professionals, thefrequent interaction with members of the public, staff and others with varyingeducational/ intellectual levels and varying socio-economic backgrounds.7. Demonstrated ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality and security of private orconfidential information.8. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with members of all levels within theorganization.9. Demonstrated ability to show good judgment, consistency, timeliness and respect indecision-making.10. Exemplary customer services skills necessary.11. Helpful but not required, knowledge of the laws and procedures governing the functionsof the probate and juvenile court; demonstrated understanding and comprehension ofprobate and juvenile laws and civil procedure; knowledge of the functions, operationsand procedures of probate and juvenile courts; knowledge of legal terminology,particularly that involved in probate and juvenile courts matters.
