Glenn family, community educatorsand supporters celebrated the opening of the new1,000-square-foot Adele P. Glenn Academy for EarlyChildhood Education at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April8, 2009.“Such a long name for aclassroom in which small childrenwill learn – The Adele P. GlennAcademy for Early ChildhoodEducation. But you see it really isvery fitting that this room benamed after Adele Glenn as shewas truly dedicated to education,”Dr. Gayle Saunders, President ofRichland Community College,said in her remarks. “In the 1960’sAdele Glenn found a passion ineducation through Title I,working to make suredisadvantaged students had theopportunity to visit areas outsideDecatur in an effort to broadentheir horizons. In 1966 she earned a teaching certificate fromMillikin University and in the same year was elected to theDecatur School Board where she served for six years. Glenn Academy for Early Childhood Education,greeted children ages threeto five as they arrived fortheir first day of school.The beautiful classroomwith its garden windowsoffers a unique learningsetting where they will beintroduced to positiveexperiences through the useof games, music, artwork,films, books, and computersin preparation forkindergarten.The Adele P.
