Imagine a young, teenage girl
walking down the street with
numerous piercing on her face and a
blanket of tattoos around her neck.
The first thought that runs through a
person’s head tends to be “She
looks scary” or “Look at her! She
must be a criminal!” The year is now
2012, and everything is changing
rapidly all around us. People are
developing their own beliefs, goals,
and attitudes and aren’t afraid to
express themselves in their own,
individual ways.
Johnny Depp once said: “My
body is my journal, and my tattoos
are my story.” In today’s society, the
people with body art would agree
with this quote, stating how it is
expressing themselves and their
feelings; people without will see it as
a way of seeking attention from
others. Junior Sammi Breeden,
Sophomore Sierra Witt, and Senior
James Hemrick all say that they like
this quote, and that it’s very
inspirational. Sophomore Kaylee
My body is my journal
By Adri Ward
Anderson says,” it is a good quote
and it’s your body, it can be your
journal.” Business man Terry Smith’s
input is that it is just a way of getting
attention from others.
Seeing how body art is get
more popular year by year, many
citizens do not have any. Sophomore
Kaylee Anderson expresses,
“piercings are okay, but there is a
limit. Business man Terry Smith
concludes “they aren’t for me; I don’t
find them attractive, but I’m not
offended by them. Everyone has
their own opinions on them; it just
depends on how that person wants
to show themselves as to the world.
Even though they can be “cute and
fun,” some people won’t always
accept someone’s decisions.
Body art can cause some
serious effects throughout a persons’
life. For instance, if a person is going
into an interview, some jobs won’t
allow visible piercing or tattoos. If the
interviewee sees them, they might
not even pay attention to the
applicant, just for that reason. Even if
you were just right for the job, your
appearance can have a huge impact
on your results. For example, if a
business man in a suit walked in with
a man also in a suit but with gages,
most likely the business man will get
the job. It sounds very unfair, but the
business would want a
well-appeared employee working for
them.
Society changes all around up
every day. No matter good or bad,
people will express themselves as
they wish to. If someone wants a
piercing or tattoo, they won’t
hesitate. Body art can have bad
impact on a persons’ life, leading to
fewer doors opened up than
someone with none. Just remember:
think before you do, and be ready for
a crazy ride. People will judge upon
someone’s appearance, and it can
risk a lot through someone’s life. No
matter if someone is fat, skinny,
attractive, non-attractive, a different
race, or if they have piercings and
tattoos, they will be judged in today’s
society by peers.
