Presenters for the Field to Plate seminars<br />

Dr. Arden Andersen is a soil scientist, agricultural consultant and<br />

a physician. He specializes in the management of soils, crops and<br />

animals in a productive, profitable and environmentally sustainable<br />

way. He is a consultant on education, product formulation and market<br />

development, and a world authority in biological agriculture. He<br />

holds a B.S. in Agricultural Education, a Ph.D. in Biophysics and has<br />

a medical degree. He consults to agricultural enterprises worldwide<br />

and practices medicine in Goshen, Indiana at Crossroads Healing<br />

Arts. He is the author of cutting edge books that bridge the gap<br />

between soil and plant science and human health: The Anatomy of Life<br />

and Energy in Agriculture, Science in Agriculture and Real Medicine,<br />

Real Health. Dr. Andersen spent ten years with two of the US’s<br />

pre-eminent biological farming experts, Dr. Carey Reams and Dr. Dan<br />

Skow. Dr. Andersen also practices preventative and nutritional medicine<br />

in the United States and lectures on soils, agronomy and human<br />

health.<br />

Vatché Keuftedjian, chief Executive Officer of Pursanova, is an<br />

accomplished, highly inspirational and team-oriented senior executive<br />

with more than 20 years in national and international operations.<br />

Influences on the structure and health of water via Pursanova’s ceramic<br />

mineral ore.<br />

Amie Bandy is a certified crop consultant in Eastern Iowa. She<br />

has a BS in Soil and Crop Science from Purdue University. She began<br />

crop scouting and consulting in 1996 establishing her own business<br />

“The Crop Advisor.”<br />

John Mayernak Has his B.S. in Agriculture from the University<br />

of Arizona. His M.S. Agronomy from New Mexico State University.<br />

John has been working with biological Fertilizers since 1988 on crops,<br />

trees and turf. John has worked with BRT/FHR since 2008<br />

Keith Schlapkohl is a founding member of the B.R.T. Ag & Turf and<br />

a life long farmer and visionary. Farming without conventional phosphorus<br />

or potassium and with the aid of waste streams and unique<br />

equipment, he has kept soil levels comfortably maintained. His yields<br />

have steadily increased while using low nitrogen levels.Keith has<br />

graced the pages of Progressive Farmer, Iowa Farmer Today, No Till<br />

Farmer and several short briefs on DTN with Dan Davidson. He is<br />

the keynote speaker for the 2010 No-Till conference in Des Moines<br />

Iowa. Keith is married to Linda and they have two daughters in college.<br />

<strong>Biographies</strong><br />

Dr. Michael McNeill was born and raised in<br />

Algona, Iowa. He received his B.S. degree in Agronomy<br />

from Iowa State University, he then later received his<br />

M.S. degree in Plant Physiology and Ph.D. in Statistical<br />

Genetics. Prior to developing a new company called Ag<br />

Advisory, Ltd., Mike worked as a Research Scientist and<br />

Research Director. Ag Advisory, Ltd. is an agricultural<br />

consulting company working with clients from Texas to<br />

Saskatchewan, Canada.<br />

Jeff Littrell is Vice President of B.R.T. and FHR Farms, <strong>Inc</strong>.<br />

He has studied with Dr. Skow, and Dr. Andersen for<br />

over 20 years working and formulating liquid and dry<br />

fertilizers, building soil programs, and using the Morgan<br />

and the CEC soil test. Jeff has studied at U of MN<br />

Waseca/Rochester, IA State, and Purdue University. He<br />

has designed programs for agriculture crops and turf.<br />

Jeff continues to farm large plot studies on the home<br />

farm in Chatfield, Minnesota while helping his children<br />

become involved in the farming operation.<br />

Dr. Dan Skow D.V.M. a practicing veterinarian and<br />

partner of Fairmont Veterinary Clinic in Fairmont, Minnesota.<br />

Dan is also the founder and partner of International<br />

Ag Labs <strong>Inc</strong>., a lab devoted to carrying on the<br />

legacy of Dr. Reams’ approach to soil fertility and crop<br />

growth. Dr. Dan is a long-time trainer in teaching Dr.<br />

Reams’ methods.<br />

Bob Streit born and raised on a farm in Mitchell<br />

County Iowa, graduated from ISU with a degree in Plant<br />

Pathology and Pest Management. He worked four years<br />

with ServiTech <strong>Inc</strong>. Bob then organized the agronomy<br />

services with a large co-op in central Iowa. He then<br />

worked 19 years with DeKalb and Cargill/Mycogen<br />

Seed Companies as a tech service agronomist. After<br />

multiple mergers he began working for farming clients<br />

as a consulting agronomist in Iowa. Until 2000 Bob also<br />

helped work and manage the home farm. In recent years<br />

he has been traveling to South America to study soybean<br />

rust and work with their pathologists on control methods.<br />

This has led him to work with the U.S. Rust Task<br />

Force and other projects wth the USDA.


Bob Kremer is a microbiologist with the U.S.D.A Agricultural<br />

Research Service, Cropping Systems & Water Quality Unit, and<br />

an Adjunct Professor of Soil Microbiology at the University of<br />

Missouri, Columbia. He earned his B.S. and M.S. in Agronomy<br />

from the University of Missouri, and his PhD.in Soil Microbiology<br />

& Biochemistry from Mississippi State University. Since joining<br />

USDA-ARS in 1983, he has conducted original research in using<br />

microorganisms and insects fro managing weed seeds in soil and<br />

suppressing weed seedlings, developing management systems for<br />

improving soil and environmental quality, and on the impcts of genetically-modified<br />

crops on soil ecology and biology. He has taught<br />

courses in coil microbiology and weed science and is co-author of<br />

“Principles in Weed Management.” Dr. Kremer is a Certified Soil<br />

Scientist and is a Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy and<br />

the Weed Science Society of America.<br />

John C. Baize is President of John C. Baize and Associates, an international<br />

agricultural trade and policy consulting firm specializing<br />

in the oilseeds sector. His clients include international agribusiness<br />

firms specializing in the oilseeds sector. His clients include international<br />

agribusiness firms, agricultural trade associations, and investment<br />

firms. He has haired and participated in international<br />

conferences on oilseeds and oilseed products in Europe, Asia and<br />

Latin America as well as in the US. His particular areas of expertise<br />

area global production and trade of oilseeds and products, the<br />

growing global biodiesel sector, global animal protein production,<br />

and agricultural policies.<br />

Prior to establishing his own firm in 1989, Baize served fro over<br />

10 years as a Staff Vice President in the American Soybean Association’s<br />

Washington Office where his duties included overall domestic<br />

and international policy development and implementation.<br />

Prior to joining the American Soybean Association, Baize served<br />

as a member of the staff of the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative<br />

(USTR) where he was involved in several aspects in the<br />

Tokyo Round of GATT negotiations. Baize also served for 4 years<br />

on the staff of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on<br />

Agriculture where be was responsible for domestic livestock and<br />

grains policy as well as international trade and export policy.<br />

Baize has traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, and Latin America<br />

representing U.S. agricultural interests. He has served as Chairman<br />

of the USDA/USTR Agricultural Technical Advisory Committee<br />

for trade in oilseeds and oilseed products.<br />

Raised on a Central Texas grain and livestock farms, Baize earned<br />

a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture from Texas Tech University<br />

and a Master of Science degree in agriculture from Colorado<br />

State University.<br />

John Oolman is experienced in agronomy primarily for corn,<br />

soybeans, and alfalfa crops. John has experience in developing<br />

training materials for farmers and farm industry professionals covering<br />

subjects of agronomy, agriculture business, fertility, tillage,<br />

and other agricultural subjects. Books, CDs, DVDs, and videos authored<br />

or coauthored “Corn and Soybean Production,” “Maximizing<br />

Corn and Soybean Production with Fertilizer,” CCA Self-Study<br />

Manual” and many others. John has managed research using small<br />

plot, greenhouse, land large scale field trials using yield monitors,<br />

involving farm equipment, fertilizers, tillage, seed, and pesticide<br />

performance. The studies provide useful information to farmers<br />

and other agricultural professionals that improves farm profitability,<br />

Experienced in seed treating, fertilizer formulation and has a<br />

Masters degree in agronomy and has a CCA certificate.<br />

Don M. Huber Dr. Huber is Professor Emeritus<br />

of Plant Pathology at Purdue University, West Lafayette,<br />

IN. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees from<br />

the University of Idaho (1957, 1959), a Ph-D from<br />

Michigan State University (1963), and is a graduate<br />

of the US Army Command & General Staff College<br />

and Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He was<br />

Cereal Pathologist at the University of Idaho for 8<br />

years before joining the Department of Botany &<br />

Plant Pathology at Purdue University in 1971. His<br />

agricultural research the past 50 years has focused<br />

on the epidemiology and control of soilborne plant<br />

pathogens with emphasis on microbial ecology, cultural<br />

and biological controls, and physiology of hostparasite<br />

relationships. Research also includes nitrogen<br />

metabolism, micronutrient physiology, inhibition<br />

of nitrification, and nutrient-disease interactions. In<br />

addition to his academic positions and research, Dr.<br />

Huber has had several concurrent careers including<br />

14 years as a professional labor-relations mediator<br />

with 7 years service on the Indiana Education Employment<br />

Relations Board as a Mediatory/Fact Finder/Conciliator,<br />

and served 12 years on two school<br />

boards with recognition as a Master Board Member<br />

from the Indiana School Board Association and Honesty<br />

in Public Service Award from Taxpayers United<br />

For Fairness. He retired in 1995 as Associate Director<br />

of the Armed Forces Medical Intelligence Center<br />

(Colonel) after 41+ years of active and reserve<br />

military service. He has received various awards for<br />

his scientific accomplishments and contributions to<br />

government. Dr. Huber is an active scientific reviewer;<br />

international research cooperator with projects<br />

in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, China, Costa<br />

Rica, Denmark, Germany, Japan, Mexico, and Russia;<br />

and a consultant to academia, industry, and government.<br />

He is author or co-author of over 300 journal<br />

articles, Experiment Station Bulletins, research<br />

presentations, book chapters and review articles; 3<br />

books, and 84 special invited publications. He is internationally<br />

recognized for his expertise in the development<br />

of nitrification inhibitors to improve the<br />

efficiency of N fertilizers, interactions of the form of<br />

nitrogen, manganese and other nutrients in disease,<br />

herbicide-nutrient-disease interactions, techniques<br />

for rapid microbial identification, and cultural control<br />

of plant diseases. His greatest accomplishment<br />

has been his marriage to Paula Huber and their 11<br />

children and 35 grandchildren. Dr. Huber currently<br />

serves as APS coordinator of the USDA National<br />

Plant Disease Recovery System (NPDRS).<br />

Gilbert Hostetler is President of Prairie Hybrids<br />

Seed Corn. He was born and raised on the family<br />

farm and involved in the seed business since age 14.<br />

With twenty years experience in research, production,<br />

processing and quality control Gilbert takes after his<br />

grandfather H.W. Hostetler who started growing seed<br />

in 1970. “Our goal is to help every one of our friends,<br />

neighbors and business associates improve their lives<br />

and the lives of their families.” Gilbert is a husband to<br />

Julia and father to children Trent, Arlyn, Renita, Rhoda<br />

and Matthew.
