Designed for use with AMRand on-site billing solutions, the FC100 represents a new era in meter reading technology for the utilityindustry and is designed to provide the flexibility offered by Microsoft Windows ® CE.NET.ComponentsThe Itron FC100 system components include a handheld computer that interfaces with a communicationscharging cradle and a software developer’s guide for third-party software application development. Thishandheld is Microsoft compliant and can be used with third-party CE-based applications that can interfaceto the CE.NET operating system.

A compact housing and ergonomic designmake it easier to hold and transport.> Large, non-volatile memory: The Itron FC100 comes standardwith a 64MB Mini-SD memory card. This removable flashmemory is interchangeable with substantial memory options.The Mini-SD card is located under the battery pack in anenvironmentally secure storage compartment. Customerscommonly use the memory card to store applications andcritical data. The standard Mini SD card is typically sufficient tostore up to 30,000 reads depending on the softwareapplication. The operating system is stored in the 32MB Flashmemory, whereas 32MB of low power, mobile SDRAM isavailable for additional memory. This memory is selfrefreshing,allowing a minimum of power consumption duringpower-off. RAM can also easily be reset at the press of areset key.> Faster reads and operations: The Itron FC100 comes standardwith a dual core OMAP processor from Texas Instruments ® .The 150MHz processor for Windows allows a meter reader tobe highly efficient processing manual reads. Additionally, theFC100 allows for future support for probing capability andother external handheld peripherals such as portable printers.In addition, the OMAP already includes sophisticated DSPtechnology to enable a future AMR solution.> Lithium-Ion battery: The FC100’s battery technology providesexcellent charge efficiency, low internal impedance, and longlife. An 1800 mAh rechargeable battery will provide enoughenergy to run the handheld and radio functions for a 12-hourday or more, although battery life can be affected byperipherals. This single cell, ultrasonically welded and sealedbattery pack is designed for effortless removal and attachmentand is environmentally advanced so that the battery can evenbe changed in pouring rain.> Advanced power and battery management: The Itron FC100has a power management feature that allows the main TexasInstruments processor and other system processes to turn offand conserve power when not in use, while keeping the unit“alive” in case the user wants to return the handheld back toan active status. There are also several operating systemconfiguration settings that conserve power, including backlighttimeout and automatic turn-off if not in use.> Integrated Bluetooth ® capability: Bluetooth short-range radiotechnology is directly integrated in the FC100, thus enablingthe use of other Bluetooth devices such as a printer foron-site billing.> Flat membrane keyboard: The Itron FC100 uses a 32 key flatmembrane keyboard with configurable keyboard mappingthrough the software application.> Serial cradle: The FC100 system uses an ergonomicallydesigned communications charging cradle for charging anduploading and downloading data to the handheld.
