BackgroundThe utility of a Web-based <strong>Review</strong> systemwas demonstrated by the NIAID systemknown as Electronic <strong>Review</strong> (ER). Thissystem provided proof of concept for IAR.ER is currently used by 16 ICs and has beenin production for more than 7 years.
IAR differs from ER in several details:ER• Assignment list and roster mustbe sent to NIAID and manuallykeyed in; changes must bedone manually at NIAID• SRA must manage accountprocess• Address or related changes fora <strong>Review</strong>er identified in ERdon’t update <strong>eRA</strong> data• SRA must 'unblock' individualreviewers in Read phase andSRA is responsible for addingany late critiques• Critiques are submitted bycutting/pasting text• SRA/GTA must convertcritiques to Word documents forsummary statementpreparationIAR• Assignment list, roster, changes,conflicts driven from IMPAC II• NIH <strong>eRA</strong> Commons managesaccounts, automatically emails<strong>Review</strong>ers• <strong>Review</strong>ers maintain their ownprofile in the NIH <strong>eRA</strong> Commons• Automatic blocking/unblocking• Critiques are submitted byuploading Word or Text files• Critiques are automaticallycombined into a draft summarystatement body (Word documentwith summary statementformatting)
