PERCENTFOR ARTSCHEME<strong>Eating</strong> <strong>Disorders</strong>Program,PsychologicalMedicine ClinicalCare <strong>Unit</strong> – <strong>Princess</strong><strong>Margaret</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong>2010<strong>Princess</strong> <strong>Margaret</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong>’s <strong>Eating</strong><strong>Disorders</strong> Program (within the PsychologicalMedicine Clinical Care <strong>Unit</strong>) provideschildren, adolescents and their familieswith a specialised, multidisciplinary,evidence-based approach to theassessment and treatment <strong>of</strong> eatingdisorders. The program provides acomprehensive continuum <strong>of</strong> care,including in-patient, day treatmentand outpatient services. Care isprovided to young people and theirfamilies in individual and group settings.The program also provides state-widetraining, supervision and consultation.When short listed for this project,funded by the Western AustralianGovernment’s Percent for Art Scheme,Olga Cironis was filled with excitement.For some time she’s wanted to createan artwork that enhances the spacewhere young people with illness cometogether for treatment and time out.Olga strived to produce a work thatwas engaging, informative and fun foryoung people.Olga created “Laughter amongst Clouds”,a series <strong>of</strong> related works that enhancethis space. Four large digi glass panelswelcome clients and staff with imageryselected from historic photographsfrom the hospital’s archives, subtlecolours and text suggested by patientsand staff during interactions with the artist.It was designed to celebrate identity and givea sense <strong>of</strong> ownership to people (patients andstaff) who use the site.Adjacent to the digi glass panels areinstallations <strong>of</strong> over 70 steel framed artworks,representing a cohesive body <strong>of</strong> work.These works include fragments <strong>of</strong> artworkfrom patients and staff created at theformer clinic, photographs from hospitalarchives, mixed media, found and collectedobjects (textiles and linoleum) from thesite, clinic and surrounds.
