Staff NewsIt is with very mixed feelings that I must announce the appointment of our Director of MathematicsSAC/DSG, Mr Thomas Hagspihl, to the Headship of Durban Girls’ College. Our congratulationsgo to Mr Hagspihl on his selection to this prestigious school. Mr Hagspihl and his wife, Marion, willbe leaving us at the end of <strong>2012</strong>.Our congratulations also go to Nikki and David Molony on the birth of their daughter, Lily, in May.The HOD Science, Mrs Kate Cobbing, will be going on maternity leave on Friday 15 th <strong>June</strong>, and shewill be away until September. Her place will be taken by Dr Sirion Robertson.Mrs Pepe Morton is in Suhl, Germany (from 8-19 <strong>June</strong>) at the Junior World Cup ShootingCompetition. This competition is the biggest International Junior event in the whole world andincludes all ISSF Olympic and Non Olympic events. Mrs Morton is Coach to the SA Junior ProteaTeam and Technical Coach to the SA Development Team.Mrs Jackie Cuyler has joined the staff to assist Educational Psychologist, Mrs Jane Jarvis, in anadministrative capacity.On a sad note, I must tell you that our long serving laboratory technician, Mr Welcome Mzalazala,passed away over the weekend. This was very sudden and unexpected. Mr Mzalazala was anHonorary Old Andrean and had been on the staff for the past 27 years. Our condolences go to hiswife, Winnie, and his two sons, Tembelani and Lizo.Memorial Service for Tim Mills (OA Merriman 1976)On Friday afternoon the 15th <strong>June</strong>, at 17h00, a Memorial Service will be held in the College Chapelfor Tim Mills, (father of Andrew a current Andrean), who passed away tragically in a motor accidenttwo weeks ago. Old Andreans and College parents who may be in Grahamstown over the weekendare most welcome to attend should they so wish.The K-Day WeekendThe activities begin on Wednesday with Hockey fixtures. The 1 st XI Hockey will be playing at 17h00on Wednesday afternoon at Kingswood. There will also be a ten year Reunion which will bring lotsof young Old Andreans and DSG Old Girls into town to join the many hundreds of Old Boys and OldGirls from our schools who will come into Grahamstown to watch the sport on Saturday. We lookforward to welcoming you and seeing you on the sidelines.
