<strong>Physiotherapy</strong><strong>BSc</strong>(<strong>Hons</strong>)The CourseThis degree offers you a dynamic approach to the study of physiotherapy and provides youwith the problem solving abilities to become a competent professional physiotherapist.You will gain a solid knowledge base and placement experiences appropriate to cope withcontemporary physiotherapy practice.You will also have the opportunity to gain the Register of Exercise Professionals level 2 and 3qualifications by studying some additional short courses.The course focuses on anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, biomechanics, physiotherapypractice, and electrophysics. You gain research skills and benefit from learninginterprofessionally throughout the three years.All the staff in thedepartment are reallyapproachable and friendly.Their doors are alwaysopen for us, which is reallyencouraging.Lisa Murtagh<strong>BSc</strong>(<strong>Hons</strong>) <strong>Physiotherapy</strong>First Year - This year is all about developing your knowledge of physiotherapy andprofessional practice and learning to adopt a problem-solving approach throughscenario-based learning. Modules include:• foundations for physiotherapy practice• neuromusculoskeletal 1• cardiorespiratory• neurosciences 1• introduction to interprofessional education


You will carry out a two-week practice placement in Semester A and a four-weekplacement at the end of your first year.Second Year - In your second year you develop and build on the knowledge gained in thefirst year, focusing particularly on the physiotherapy management of patients with longtermand complex conditions. Modules include:• neuromusculoskeletal 2, 3 and 4• neurosciences 2• complex patient care• research methodsDuring this year there are two five-week practice placement modules.Final Year - Your Final Year incorporates both academic and practice-based modules. Itis a great opportunity for you to reflect on and evaluate your abilities and to prepare foryour role as a qualified practitioner when you graduate.Modules include:• physiotherapy practice in health and social car• enhancing health and social care through interprofessional education• advancing practice• applied researchYou will carry out three five-week practice placement modules in the final year.Practice placementThroughout your studies practice placements will be interspersed giving you the allimportant valuable experience that you will need when you graduate. The placementswill give you the opportunity to link the theoretical knowledge you gain via the lecturesand seminars with the practical experiences.Approximately one third of your time is spent on practice placements carried out inhospitals and other healthcare service provider units. These placements will give you theopportunity to link the theoretical knowledge and practical skills learnt in the Universitysetting, to the real life practice situation.
