13.6. alignment with Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs)NHS healthcare providers in each of the LETBs wish to develop a distinct AcademicHealth Science Network in their area. The alignment of agendas to do with education,research and innovation will be more practicable as a consequence. However, there hasbeen considerable speculation whether size criteria will be applied to potential AHSNs inthe shape of population „footprint‟. Estimates of AHSN numbers anywhere between 10and 18 have been forecast (suggesting a population footprint between 3 and 5 million),but no definitive information on this is currently available;13.7. leadership by healthcare providersthe configuration of two local education and training networks is what the NHShealthcare providers want in South of England (Central). They are committed to thesenetworks, which they believe will work in the best interests of patients, trainees and theNHS workforce.Geographical areas and boundary issues14. Thames Valley LETB will cover the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. Milton Keynes NHS Trust and the Clinical Commissioning Groups in what is currently MiltonKeynes PCT could opt for membership of either the Thames Valley LETB or the East MidlandsLETB.16. Milton Keynes NHS Trust has indicated a wish to join the Thames Valley LETB, and a formalletter has been sent to Chief Executives requesting a decision by 06 June.17. If the Milton Keynes employers choose to remain part of the Thames Valley network then thefunding available to the Thames Valley LETB will be undiminished. If, on the other hand, theMilton Keynes employers opt to join the East Midlands LETB, a proportion of the Multi-Professional Education and Training (MPET) levy would transfer with them. This proportion couldbe as much as 11% of Thames Valley's allocation and its loss would threaten the viability of theOptions Appraisal Version 5 dated 08 June 2012 Page 6 of 15
network and the Oxford Deanery. 218. Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust provides all the CAMHS and eating disorder services forWiltshire, Bath and North East Somerset and most of Swindon. The Trust may wish to engagewith the relevant network in the West (probably as an observer) as well as have its mainmembership with the Thames Valley network.19. It is recommended:22.1. that the South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust choose one LETB ofwhich it will be a full participating member (the CE of SCAS has agreed to inform LETBChairs of his decision by 15 June);22.2. that the Trust should be invited to participate in the business of the other LETB as a nonvotingBoard member or participant in a Partnership Council;2 Based on the unified weighted population of Milton Keynes PCT which is 11% of the total unified weighted population coveredby the Thames Valley LETB (including Milton Keynes).3 Wessex Deanery provides services to the States of Jersey.
