Cages (hard or soft shell pet carriers) mustbe small enough to fit on the owner’s lap.Passengers must hold onto their pet’s cage at all times.If there is room, the passenger may place and hold thecage beside them on the floor. The cage should notblock the aisle or restrict other passengers.Assistance animals that are certified are allowed onpublic transit at all times. You may be asked to produceyour Guide Animal Certificate.Fare ChecksPlease be courteous when your driver checks your fare,transfer or asks to look at your pass – it is part of their job.SafetyThe Bus is a Safe PlaceTransit drivers can contact local police, ambulanceand other emergency services. Transit drivers are alsotrained to assist a child or adult in need. Tell the driverif you are concerned about your safety.BC Transit’s safety and security practices upholdthe British Columbia Transit Act and the B.C. MotorVehicle Act.Be Safe and Be SeenSometimes it is difficult for transit drivers to see youat bus stops, especially along unlit roads. Wear lightcoloured clothing, wear a reflective strip or use aflashlight or the light from your mobile phone to signalthe driver that you are at the stop.Request-a-StopCustomers who feel that their personal safety is at riskcan ask their driver to stop between regular bus stops.Ask your transit driver at least one bus stop ahead ofwhere you wish to get off. You will be let off at a safelocation closest to your request. Please contact yourlocal transit office for details and any time restrictions.AccessibilityCourtesy SeatingBC Transit serves everyone on a first-to-board basis.Courtesy seating is the front accessible area of thebus and is especially vital to:• customers that use scooters, wheelchairs, pediatricstrollers or other mobility aids• customers with a disability or mobility issue• customers with baby strollersYour mobility aid must not exceed 2 feet by 4 feet(61 cm by 122 cm). To check if a stop isaccessible, call 604·795·3838Flagging the Bus –Agassiz-Harrison Transit onlyIn Agassiz-Harrison, customers can “wave” a busdown on rural roads. When you want to flag the bus,find a safe location along the route and wave at thebus. A safe location is one where visibility is good andwhere the bus can easily pull off the road, such as adriveway.
