SONICOM 2000 INTERCOM AND CONTROL SYSTEMSonicom 2000 is an in-house communication system developed and produced inSwitzerland. The system consists of any number of parallel connected intercomstations each equipped with microprocessor and digital display. A full colour brochure, giving many examples of possible configurations of components of the system isavailable free on request from Technical Support. This also shows the many otherspecialised application interfaces, call units, weatherproof and heavy duty units in therange.Because the intelligence is integrated in every station, the Sonicom 2000 requires nocomplex exchange or control unit. The system can be individually extended at anytime to meet changing requirements, or complemented with door intercom stationsand loudspeakers. The digital display built into every station indicates not only thenumber of the other station but also conveys information about the call. With thissystem, a paging system is redundant. Searching for employees is seldom necessary,as the reason for absence and time of return can be registered via the display. Thisinformation can be remotely transferred or called up. When a person is absent orengaged, a call back request can be registered. The aesthetic design fits anysurroundings, whether placed on a table or mounted on (or in) a wall.Features:ì Parallel connection (simple installation)ì Unlimited extensions at any timeì Easy to operateì Several simultaneous conversations possibleì Excellent speech qualityì Individual continuously variable volume controlì Hands-free answering of a call up to 20 metres from unitì Call numbers user programmableì Short form number user programmableì Digital display in every stationì Registering and transferring of informationì Call back memoryì Follow me, call transfer, hold circuitì Collective and group calls with automatic answerì Call blocking (do not disturb)ì Conferencing for an unlimited number of participantsì Remote control of several auxiliary functionsì Universal housing for table or surface/flush wall mountingì Every terminal usable as standard handsetì Applications for alarm systems and nurse callì Remote interrogation of sensors and measurement devices, with readout displayedon unitì Special accessories (loudspeakers, door intercom stations, industrial intercomstations, alarm detectors)An intercom system serves as a useful supplement to the telephone. The telephone isirreplaceable for external communications, but internal calls or enquiries can be dealtwith much more efficiently using an intercom. From experience it can be said that theinternal flow of information is considerably larger than the external. An intercomsystem provides a second communication level leaving the telephone free for callsfrom customers. Furthermore, enquiries within the company are possible even duringan external telephone call.In locations other than offices, a person called often has to interrupt his work to goand answer the telephone. After the call he must return to his work and try to regainconcentration. With the Sonicom intercom, however, a call can be answered from adistance of up to 20 metres without interrupting work, as the remote unit (call originator)controls speak and listen.Collective call and automatic answering are possible from any station. These facilitiesoffer the most favourable method of locating somebody in your company. The personbeing paged can answer from any station in the system and his answer will be heardonly by the caller. For example, if somebody is required for a telephone call, he iseasily located using a collective call. The person called presses once on the acceptancekey on the nearest intercom station and the connection is made. At the sametime all other stations are automatically disconnected.Every station is equipped with a call blocking key and continuous volume control. Abuilt in lamp indicates the speech direction. Every station can be wall mounted withoutany problems. On request the intercom station can be designed for discrete conversationsalso. As soon as the station is placed to the ear and used like a standardtelephone handset, the volume is automatically reduced. A user directory is fixed tothe back of every station. The Sonicom intercom systems use the simplest and most cost-effective type ofinstallation: parallel bus-cabling. The intercom stations are plugged into sockets, which are connected together by a thin cable led from room to room. When anadditional station is required in the future, the new socket can be connected to thenearest point in the system. A further advantage of the parallel cabling is that a stationcan retain its call number when plugged into another socket. The modern, unconventional design with elegant lines and attractive colours, appealsto all tastes and fits into any surroundings.. . . continued overleaf

Technical Details:The system is divided into sectors each containing up to 30 intercom stations. Twovoice channels are available per sector. A system can be extended at any time. Thewiring is kept simple by the use of sectors, usually allocated on a departmental basis, sectors being able to be linked to each other. The call number of every station in thesystem can be individually programmed by the user. Remote control of severalindependent functions is possible from a station. Each station is equipped with adigital display for registering information which is displayed at the caller’s stationinforming him where the person he requires can be found and when he can beexpected to return. The caller can register a call back request, which remains storeduntil answered or cancelled.Intercom Stations2000 S INTERCOM STATIONIntercom station, containing digital display, 1W loudspeaker, microphone, 10 digitkeyboard, 5 function keys and 3 lamps (LED s): speech direction (green), incomingcalls blocked (yellow), station active (red). Installation AccessoriesThe installation of a complete sector with up to 30 2000S intercom stations and totalcable runs up to 200 metres, requires an overall screened cable with four pairs of0.5mm 2 (0.8mm diam) wires, connected in parallel (i.e. ‘daisy chain’). For ‘star’ configurationthe unit 2000 UGV-Hub is recommended. Canford cable type OSM4 isspecifically intended for use with this system. For larger systems with up to 1000m ofcable run, the network should have larger conductors on the power cores to avoidany possibility of voltage drop at the extremities of the system during periods of heavyusage. Lay a second run parallel to the main run (with DC power cores connected inparallel). Installation note: DC power is carried on pins 9, 10, 11 & 12 - parallel cableruns should be connected to these pins (only). As sockets have screw terminals, soldering is not required for installation. Cables of smaller cross sectional area mustnot be used.2000 BSA/2000 BSUDual RJ45 8 pole flush (BSU) or surface (BSA) mount socket with screw terminals.OSM 4 pair CABLESolid cores 0.8mm diameter (0.5mm 2 ), twisted together to form pairs, laid up togetherwith drain wire, overall foil screen, and sheathed grey PVC.
