Many of the answers andbreakthroughs required to achieve these goals do not yet exist. The path will be paved with the bestscience and evidence available, and progress will be continuously monitored and evaluated toensure that the Partnership is on track to deliver safer, more affordable, and effective care. The National Priorities Partnership's action agenda is underway, aiming to build towardssubstantive healthcare reform that will yield real results for America's patients. In addition to theleadership of the Partners and the collective work and action of the entire healthcare community, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is generously supporting the efforts of the National PrioritiesPartnership. The path forward created by the Partnership's Priorities and Goals encouragesimproved public reporting, payment reform, better use of technology and information, patientcenteredcare, and more.Throughout 2009 and beyond, the Partners will work to spur action at all levels to help giveAmericans high-quality, affordable and equitable healthcare. At its 9 February meeting, theNational Priorities Partnership discussed potential actions for the upcoming year along withenumeration of additional stakeholders that should be included in the process. From an historicalperspective, ANA CEO Stierle has worked to bring together the nursing community and sharedtheir input with NPP which is a model for constituency engagement.Driver maps will be developed for each of the priorities. Milestones will be developed to assist inevaluation of progress. As an example in regards to care coordination, readmission was furtherexplored. Specifically, evaluation of follow-up with a primary care provider within 14 days shouldbe a measure. The workgroups will be reconstituted and will include additional expertise. It must be recognized that the Priorities do not belong to the Partners alone. Transformative reformdepends on people and organizations at all levels working together to act on the Priorities andGoals. The Partners encourage the members of the Congress on Nursing Practice and Economics tojoin them not just in calling for reform, but also in enacting it nationally and locally across thecountry. What CNPE (and its members’ organizations) can do now to join, support, and/or endorsethis national movement is to:Take Action. Identify ways in which the Priorities and Goals align with your organization’sstrategic goals.Take a Stand. Get endorsement from your organizational leadership, or issue a press releaseannouncing your organization’s intent to align with and implement the Priorities.Spread the Word.
