Basic SkillsThe Basic Skills Service within <strong>Merthyr</strong> <strong>Tydfil</strong> currently provides <strong>training</strong> <strong>and</strong> interventionsat Key Stage 2 <strong>and</strong> <strong>training</strong> at Key Stage 3.At Key Stage 2 in the primary sector the Catch Up Literacy programme is offered to pupilsin all primary schools <strong>and</strong> Brecon Road Infants School. All parents <strong>and</strong> <strong>carers</strong> of pupils whoattend the Catch Up Literacy programme will be offered a one hour workshop in eachschool during September, October <strong>and</strong> November. SNAP Cymru’s Training CoursesSNAP Cymru’s <strong>training</strong> courses aim to increase participants’ knowledge <strong>and</strong> skills in orderimprove outcomes for children <strong>and</strong> young people, their families <strong>and</strong> <strong>carers</strong>. The content of our<strong>training</strong> draws on local <strong>and</strong> national guidance <strong>and</strong> research <strong>and</strong> experience gained from over 20 years ofworking in partnership with parents <strong>and</strong> professionals. Early Years Development <strong>and</strong> Childcare PartnershipThis Service offers wide <strong>and</strong> comprehensive <strong>training</strong> opportunities to support Early Years <strong>and</strong> Childcareproviders in meeting national minimum st<strong>and</strong>ards as well as offering a holistic approach to continuousprofessional development. Family Information Services (FIS)The Family Information Service Officer is responsible for maintaining details of all early years, childcareprovision, leisure activities <strong>and</strong> family support services throughout <strong>Merthyr</strong> <strong>Tydfil</strong>. The FIS Team worksin partnership with childcare providers to provide impartial advice <strong>and</strong> information on early yearssettings. Family ProgrammesFamily Programmes is a borough wide initiative, delivering a range of Family Literacy <strong>and</strong> NumeracyProgrammes in Nursery, Infant <strong>and</strong> Primary Schools on a rolling programme.
