STAR TREK ROLEPLAYING GAMESPECIES PROFILESPECIES NAME: EFROSIANVISUAL REPRESENTATIONCULTUREEfrosian culture is the result of living on the harsh, frozenworld of Efros Delta for generations. Both technological andsocial development were minimal during the millennia-longice age that ravaged the planet. Close-knit tribes formed outof a need for survival. Once the immense glaciers began tobreak up, the planet eventually united.Efrosians prefer to specialize in one area of expertise. The Efrosians do not have a written language. Althoughintroduced to the concept by other civilizations, theEfrosian culture is still based on memorizing oral history, with libraries resembling other worlds' music archives.Furthermore, the Efrosian language is music based, whichis more common among aquatic species such as the Alonis, than mammalian humanoids.SPECIES ADJUSTMENTS+1 Strength, +1 Intellect, -1 PerceptionPHYSICAL DESCRIPTIONEfrosians are very similar in appearance to Klingons, save for the very slight cranial ridges in comparison toa Klingon's full crest, and a copper skin complexion.Their faces contain fatty deposits inherited from theirprimitive ancestors who neglected to cover their facesfrom the harsh cold of the planet Efros. Males tend tohave white or blonde hair while females usually haveblack or dark brown hair.It is typical in Efrosian culture for the males to growlengthy mustaches, and most Efrosians wear their hairlong. Efrosians have two stomachs and require theoils found in Levithi nuts in order to remain healthy. These nuts are found only on Efros Delta, but areexported to other Federation worlds where Efrosianslive. Most Efrosians have weak eyes but compensate with aheightened sense of smell. Some Efrosians who areblind can correct this disability with a type of specialmechanical glasses. Interestingly, despite their pooreyesight Efrosians appear to have a greater range ofvision than Humans, being sensitive to a wider portionof the spectrum. An inherent ability is their uncanny sense of direction. This is believed to have originated as a survivalmechanism to deal with their world's often blindingsnowstorms. As a result, Efrosians are often soughtout as navigators.Efrosians lack the concept of monogamy found in manyother humanoid cultures, however this lack of monogamydoes not necessarily translate into sexual promiscuity. Still,Efrosians consider sexual intercourse a useful way to learnto work well with others, helping one appreciate one'scolleagues. It is actually considered somewhat rude not toflirt with someone of your preferred sex. Children are raisedby their mothers alone; in fact, the Efrosian word for motheris the word which translates into English as "parent". Theclosest term for a father is "seed-donor." Most Efrosiansnever meet their father. The mother is aided in caring for thechild by whatever male lovers she has taken at the time. This behavior arose out of necessity; given the harshconditions on Efros Delta, males had to mate with as manyfemales as possible, and leaving a mother dependent upononly one male, who might not return from foraging parties, was foolish.Efrosians are often attuned to others' emotional needs. They are known as an emotionally complex people.GovernmentEach tribe during the ice age had at least one warrior-priest,an individual capable of exceptional combat as well as greathealing. When the ice age ended, the warrior-priests soonunited Efros under a religious oligarchy led by the stillreveredS'skotomz. As members of the United Federation of Planets, anEfrosian delegation sits on the Federation Council. In 2289,Ra-ghoratreii was elected President of the UnitedFederation of Planets and served until 2300.ReligionEfrosians are deeply spiritual, as a rule. Their religionfeatures the same binary morality as is found in many Earthreligions. The Efrosian equivalent of heaven is known as"Endless Sky", and it is balanced by a fiery underworld.Efrosian funeral services feature a "death march" in honorof the deceased. The Efrosian faith is rumored to obligateits members' names not be spoken (sung) aloud, on Efros.Nothing else is known, because Efrosians refuse to discussthe matter with outsiders, except to mention that theirreligion is what enabled them to withstand the Efros iceage.

Unfortunately, this has been the subject of speculationand some Tellarites believe child-sacrifice and ritualmurder are common religious practices. This guardedsecrecy very much remains in place in the 24thcentury.HistorySome Federation anthropologists claim there is someevidence that the Efrosians did not originally evolveon Efros. Other anthropologists suggest that the racewas seeded on the planet before its ice age by thePreservers.Unlike other planets where technology suffered underreligious rule, the Efrosian warrior-priests believetechnology betters life. As the climate warmed (at avery slow rate), additional energy and mineralresources were discovered that contributedsubstantially to their technological progress.First contact was made with the Federation in 2278when the Vulcan crew of the USS Surak visited Efros.Delighted to learn of other intelligent life, the Efrosianssoon joined the Federation and began educational andphilosophical cultural exchanges with other worlds. Many serve in Starfleet and the Merchant Academy ashelmsmen, navigators, and medical personnel (somewarrior-priests have become Starfleet doctors).LANGUAGESEfrosians have their own language, Efrosian, and alsomost Eforsians who intend to work off-world will learnthe languages that function best for their work.Federation Standard, Deltan, Klingon, and Vulcan arecommon among languages spoken by Efrosians.COMMON NAMESEforsians have long, somewhat elaborate names thathave a distinctly Arabic sound to them whencompared to names in Terran languages. SomeEforsian names include Hu'Ghovlatrei, Ra-Yalix,Adzhin-Dall, Chitirih Ra-Dreii, Ra-ghoratreii, Zinaida, and Chitirih-Ra-Payjh.HOMEWORLDEfros, also known as Efros Delta, is the fourth planetin the Flarset system and homeworld of the humanoidEfrosians, a member of the United Federation ofPlanets. The planet Efros was in the throes of an ice age asrecently as the mid-13th century. In fact, the very name"Efros" translates as "ice" in the Efrosian language. The United Federation of Planets made first contactwith Efros in 2278 when the USS Surak visited theplanet.A notable citizen of Efros was Federation PresidentRa-ghoratreii.Efros is a cold world with virtually no variety in climateand massive glaciers dot the landscape. However, theplanet does have an abundant supply of metals andgeothermal energy. Most of the Efrosian people live inthe small temperate zone around the equator. The cold, harsh conditions on Efros make it difficult foranimals and plants to thrive, but some native non-intelligentorganisms do exist.FAVORED PROFESSIONEfrosians are well known for their involvement withStarfleet, as Flight Control Officers, Security, Tactical, andMedical Personnel.Civilian Eforsians often work as Scientists, Explorers, orprivate Soldiers.Unlike the Atreonids, to whom the Eforsians are oftencompared both physically and culturally, Efrosians do notmake the best Diplomats, but their Warrior-priests qualify asMystics and even Adepts.SPECIES ABILITIESEfrosians are as strong as Klingons, and almost asnaturally intellectual as Vulcans. Their limited eye-sight,restricts their perceptive skills, however. These speciestraits result in a +1 bonus to both Strength and Intellectattributes, and a -1 to Perception.Efrosians also have the following species abilities:Poor Eyesight: Efrosian eyesight is not as good as that ofmost humanoids. As a result they receive a -2 penalty to allObserve (Spot) tests. Efrosians with extremely bad visionwould be considered blind by human standards, but theyare still able to see in the ultra-violet spectrum. Efrosianscan compensate for their poor eyesight by using specialglasses that filter out light-waves outside the ultra-violetspectrum. When wearing a pair of these glasses, theEfrosian is not effected by their visual deficiency, andObserve (Spot) tests are performed without the -2 testpenalty.Efrosian “glasses” used to eliminate, or compensate forthe effects of poor Efrosian eyesight.Efrosian GlassesSpecifications: 12.7cm x 3.8cm. 14cm (earpieces).0.04kg massDescription: With a wide variety of appearances, based on the preferred style and design of thewearer; Eforsian glasses usually resemble Terraneyeglasses with darkened lenses called “sunglasses”because they were used to filter out therays of Earth's sun to improve outdoor vision.Duration / Energy: Efrosian glasses require noenergy or power-supply to function as the lensesare specially ground and tinted to filter out all butultra-violet light waves.Rules: When worn by Efrosians, these glassesremove the -2 Observe (Spot) penalty caused bytheir decreased vision. When worn by non-Efrosians, these glasses aid in seeing in the ultra-

violet spectrum much the same way as infraredgoggles would allow people to see in theinfra-red spectrum. This gives a +2 to allObserve (Spot) tests for non-Efrosians trying tosee in the ultra-violet spectrum. But, usingthese glasses for an extended period cancause headaches in non-Efrosians.A non-Eforsian wearing the glasses for a lengthof time equal to 1d6 hours -Stamina reactionmodifier must make a Stamina reaction test orsuffer a severe headache, intense enough tocause a -1 cumulative penalty to all Physicaltests per hour unless a successful Staminareaction test is made at TN 10.Exceptional Hearing: To compensate for their pooreyesight, Efrosians also evolved with an increasedhearing range similar to the hearing capabilities ofmany Terran animals. Especially large felines.Efrosians receive a +2 to all Observe (Listen) tests.Flirtatious: Because Efrosians flirt openly and evenconsider it rude not to do so, they can be verycharming. Efrosians receive a +1 species bonus to allInfluence (Charm) and Influence (Seduce) tests.Dedicated: Eforsians prefer to devote themselves toone profession. And they study and concentrate theirefforts on the necessary skills for this profession. AllEfrosians will begin with one Tier-1 ProfessionalAbility in their chosen profession for free.
