Academic AppointmentThis is a full-time, 12-month faculty position at the rank <strong>of</strong> Full <strong>Pr<strong>of</strong>essor</strong>, or at the rank <strong>of</strong>Associate <strong>Pr<strong>of</strong>essor</strong> with eligibility for tenure <strong>and</strong> promotion, in the <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong>Communication Sciences <strong>and</strong> Disorders (CSD), College <strong>of</strong> Allied Health (CAH), The University<strong>of</strong> Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC), Oklahoma City, OK. The individual filling thisposition will serve as <strong>Chair</strong> <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> CSD <strong>and</strong> will be responsible for performing allleadership <strong>and</strong> administrative duties associated with that appointment.II. Required QualificationsRequired qualifications include an earned Ph.D. in Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology,Speech Science, Hearing Science, or, in exceptional cases, another related field, <strong>and</strong> currentacademic rank <strong>of</strong> tenured Full or Associate <strong>Pr<strong>of</strong>essor</strong>. Applicants must possess 1) a demonstratedrecord <strong>of</strong> successful university teaching, research, <strong>and</strong> administration; 2) ongoing nationally- orinternationally-recognized research <strong>and</strong> extramural funding productivity; <strong>and</strong> 3) outst<strong>and</strong>ingleadership, management, <strong>and</strong> communication skills. Clinical credentials (CCC-SLP, CCC-A) arenot required but applicants must demonstrate a thorough underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>of</strong> clinical preparationprograms in speech-language pathology <strong>and</strong> in audiology.III. Preferred QualificationsApplicants who also possess experience with Ph.D. program development <strong>and</strong> who have servedas successful mentors for Ph.D. students <strong>and</strong> tenure-track faculty members will be highlycompetitive.IV. Areas <strong>of</strong> Responsibility1. The individual filling this position will function as the primary administrator <strong>of</strong> the<strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> CSD <strong>and</strong> will:A. provide vision <strong>and</strong> leadership for achieving the department’s missions <strong>and</strong> strategicplans,B. oversee <strong>and</strong> facilitate the department’s academic <strong>and</strong> clinical programs,C. develop <strong>and</strong> manage the department’s budget <strong>and</strong> financial resources,D. develop, evaluate, <strong>and</strong> revise curricula,E. manage <strong>and</strong> develop human resources,F. maintain accreditation <strong>of</strong> the department’s pr<strong>of</strong>essional preparation programs, <strong>and</strong>G. foster collaborative research relationships within the department, the college, theuniversity, <strong>and</strong> with peer institutions.10/09/20101

The individual filling this position will engage in research <strong>and</strong> scholarly activitiescommensurate with Full <strong>Pr<strong>of</strong>essor</strong> academic rank <strong>and</strong> will:A. maintain an active research program in his/her area <strong>of</strong> interest,B. secure extramural funding in the forms <strong>of</strong> research <strong>and</strong> training grants, contracts, <strong>and</strong>other awards, <strong>and</strong>C. provide research mentorship for tenure-track faculty <strong>and</strong> for Ph.D. <strong>and</strong> other studentsengaged in research.3. The individual filling this position will teach coursework in his/her area <strong>of</strong> expertise.4. The individual filling this position will participate in faculty governance via service ondepartmental, college, <strong>and</strong> university committees; <strong>and</strong> will be active in national <strong>and</strong>international pr<strong>of</strong>essional service activities commensurate with academic rank.V. General InformationThe <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> CSD is one <strong>of</strong> five academic departments within the College <strong>of</strong> Allied Healthat the OUHSC. It is staffed by 14 full-time <strong>and</strong> 9 part-time faculty members <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers fiveacademic degree programs in speech-language pathology <strong>and</strong> in audiology: the pre-pr<strong>of</strong>essionalundergraduate degree (B.S. in CSD), two pr<strong>of</strong>essional preparation degrees (M.A. in SLP, Au.D.),<strong>and</strong> two research degrees (M.S. in SLP, Ph.D. in either SLP or in Audiology). Within thecollege’s Allied Health Clinics, the John W. Keys Speech <strong>and</strong> Hearing Center is administered bythe <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> CSD <strong>and</strong> serves as an important research <strong>and</strong> clinical training site for studentsin the department’s academic programs. The department’s pr<strong>of</strong>essional preparation programs inspeech-language pathology <strong>and</strong> in audiology are nationally accredited by the Council onAcademic Accreditation in Audiology <strong>and</strong> in Speech-Language Pathology. The department islocated within the recently completed Allied Health Building (AHB) on the OUHSC campus.Research laboratories, faculty <strong>of</strong>fices, clinical facilities, <strong>and</strong> classrooms <strong>of</strong> all sizes within theAHB have been fitted with the latest technologies for research, academic teaching, <strong>and</strong> clinicalinstruction.
