Cardiac Ward RedevelopmentGreat advances in the clinical treatment of cardiac patients in the past 50 years,along with fast-changing technology, have created a need for The Alfred’s cardiacservices to be updated. This complexcapital project involves some relocation,some refurbishment and some rebuilding.The Alfred Foundation: A Report to The Alfred Community 2006/2007Work began in mid-2005 and when it opens later this year,the new E & E Rabinowicz Cardiac and Thoracic Centre willintegrate all cardiac specialties into one dedicated area.Cardiothoracic surgery and cardiology inpatient facilitieswill be co-located, expanding a continuity of care.The Alfred’s expert cardiac team boasts some of themost highly-skilled cardiologists, nurses, cardiothoracicsurgeons and technicians in the world. Sheran the auxiliary stall five days a weekand stocked it with beautifully knittedchildren’s clothes, she organised amobile library and a food trolley serviceon the wards, she had a listening earfor everyone and rallied support forcountless fundraising activities whilestill finding time to be President of boththe Prahran Auxiliaries and The AlfredAuxiliaries. In 2006 she was nominatedfor a Pride of Australia Award.She was energetic, immensely kind andpassionate about helping the sick.Lil Eastwood was one of The Alfred’svery good friends. She genuinely madea difference and we salute her wonderfulgiving life.
