120th Anniversary of theMarian was a very small school at first. Itstarted with only seven students and ahandful of Brigidine Nuns. Slowly, yearby-year,it grew, and now 120 years old itis still going strong with a steady numberof over 450 students, each with their owntalents and needs.I came from a very small school with onlyjust over twenty kids, so as you can imagine,I had no idea what to do with 450!Slowly, I became very comfortable here; Ijust wanted to have fun. I thought it fantasticthat our values were not forced uponus; they were only encouraged.The Brigidine Nuns started such a greatthing all those years ago and I think somepeople forget that it was them who startedthis wonderful place so, now, 120 years on,we still have our values; to be faithful, tocelebrate, to love learning, to be for justiceand service and to welcome all, especiallythe most vulnerable.Marian College is a very historic place. 120years ago, five nuns came from Irelandand started our Catholic school. It tookthem a lot of courage to leave their familyand friends. This school is great becausestaff members are welcoming to everyone,whether you are Catholic or not. One ofour values is we are welcoming to all, especiallythe most vulnerable.The teachers have faith in us and help uswhen something is wrong, they trust us andall of the students can trust them.We celebrate many days of the year thatare important to our community. The BrigidineNuns have done well; they have madeour school a happy, welcoming place to be.I think that everyone is thankful for whatthey have done for our community and us.Work from Year 7 studentsMarian College is a great school. Movingfrom primary school to secondary is scary,but coming to Marian made the jump overthe road quite easy. If you have a problemyou can go see the very caring teacherswho will help you get through it: they don’tspread your problem around the school.It only involves you and the teacher (oradult).Marian College welcomes all, especially themost vulnerable. We help them from Year7 to Year 12. The Brigidine education isvery thoughtful. To come from Ireland to asmall country town and never see your familyagain was a very brave thing to do, buteveryone in the school thinks it was a greatand very thoughtful thing to do. 120 yearsis a great achievement. Well done.Marian College is very grateful to have youin the history of our school. Thank you.As a Year Seven, you think you’re notimportant but as a Year Seven at MarianCollege, teachers give you so many opportunitiesto make your time as memorableas possible. Marian is the best schoolfor anyone because everyone is accepted.Marian accepts everyone for who they are,whether they be a different race, religion orwhether they have a disability.But the staff members at Marian Collegearen’t the only people who run the school,it’s the Brigidine Nuns that are the backboneof the school because they’re the oneswho risked their lives and abandoned theirhomeland to make our lives a lot better.That’s why this school has been running sowell for the last 120 years. Because it isunder the supervision of the Brigidine Nuns.
Brigidine Sisters 1888 - 2008Marian College, Ararat is not my firstsecondary school, but is definitely theone I will enjoy for the next four years.I was surprised when I fitted in straightaway and I cherish every day.The atmosphere of the school is electric.It’s so enjoyable to be in a classof motivated and soon to be successfulstudents. The teachers are wonderfulpeople and you’re bound to learnwith people who love what they do anddo it so well. 120 years on, 120 yearsstrong.The Brigidine have created a thrivingfamily that will continue forever basedon core values.I think Marian College is a goodschool because at my old schoolthere was a lot of bullying andat Marian College there is notmuch.When I was at my old school Iwas getting bullied. It didn’t reallyworry me but I went and sawthe teacher and they did nothingabout it. So I just left it to theend of the year because therewasn’t much time to go and myMum went and saw the Principalbut she didn’t do anything aboutit. So I just said to myself “I willjust leave it till the end of theyear”, and I was happy to leavethat school because the teachersdidn’t do much about it.When I came to this school I wasreally happy.Marian College is by far the best schoolI’ve been to. They accept everyone nomatter what their problem or religion is.There are so many good facilities here.It is such a good and easy place to makefriends no matter what age you are.All of the camps are so, so cool and funto go on.Like the Year 7 one, where you go toWarrnambool. On the WarrnamboolCamp you stay at a really cool caravanpark right on the side of the sea. Thatcamp was to help all the Year 7 people toget to know each other better. On twoof the days you go surfing with thesetwo awesome instructors. And on oneof the other days you go ten-pin bowling.It is really fun. The Year 8 Camp, Iheard, is really good too.I congratulate the Brigidine Sisters fortheir 120th anniversary. Thank you forthis great school.
