5. Homework Assignments: You will be demonstrating your understanding ofthe course material through the completion of a number of homeworkassignments. These assignments will receive “grades,” and your work willbe completed on time and according to standards. It may be necessary foryou to repeat assignments to meet standards; however, as long as allassignments are always completed on time, you will lose no dollars. Anexception to this rule will be if you turn in an assignment that is devoid ofany academic quality, or an assignment that is not your own. In that case,you could receive a fine---and dishonesty will result in a failure of the course.Technical ExpertiseWhile this course requires no technical expertise, you are going to be usingcomputers, and some of you will be learning computer technology that you donot already possess. Each student will1. become familiar with computer search engines and will be able to use these toobtain information to support speeches, class projects, group projects;2. learn how to critically evaluate information found on the internet;3. become familiar with the use of Power Point and learn how to prepare a slideshow for use in public presentations; and4. become familiar with the use of additional technologies (including but notlimited to the use of overhear projection, video clips and audio clips) inadditional public presentations and will learn guidelines for using these.General Education Learning Outcomes1. Student speeches will be logically organized and clearly presented.2. Student essays will be logically organized, syntactically coherent, andgrammatically correct.3. Students will use bibliographical and web sources proficiently for the sake ofpreparing and presenting speeches and a small group project. This also meansthat they will know how to employ those resources without plagiarizing them.4. Students will understand more deeply the rich complexity of culture, thediversity of cultures and they will appreciate the similarities and differenceswithin a culture.5. Students will exhibit technical proficiency with the use of Power Point in thepreparation and delivery of public presentations.
