Francis Su Wins <strong>MAA</strong> National Haimo Teaching AwardBy Min-Lin Lo, Cal State San BernardinoChair, Section Teaching Award Committee, 2011-12Section Chair, 2012-13Francis Edward Su of Harvey Mudd Collegewas one of three winners of the <strong>MAA</strong>’shighest award for distinguished teaching, theFranklin and Deborah Tepper Haimo Awardfor Distinguished College or UniversityTeaching, for <strong>2013</strong>. He received the awardduring the Joint Prize Session at the JointMathematics Meetings held in San Diego,California, in January of <strong>2013</strong>.Dr. Su is an outstanding teacher asevidenced by numerous student commentsand peer evaluations. He has not only madea positive impact at Harvey Mudd College asa great teacher (influencing mathcurriculum, mentoring undergraduateresearch, overseeing the Putnam seminar),but also by reaching out to a broaderaudience in other teaching venues (CornellUniversity, <strong>MAA</strong> PREP workshops, ParkCity Mathematics Institute) and outreach tomiddle-school students (Foothill CountryDay School, Math Path).
