The trip included a flighton the London Eye, a three-course carvery meal and tour of the London Christmas lights.At dusk, the London Eye flight was spectacular with all the surrounding landmarks clearly litup and visible with the Eye itself illuminated. A raffle was held on the coach in support of thePast <strong>High</strong> Chief Ranger’s appeal – the RNLI – which raised £91.Social event summaryThere have been some lucrative eventsacross the area so far this year. <strong>Court</strong>3621 in Newmarket held a very successfuldinner dance in February, and enjoyed itsband concert and service on 5th June thatmarked its 150th anniversary.Successful coffee mornings have beenheld by <strong>Court</strong>s 2948, 6203 and 3658.<strong>Court</strong> 6203 enjoyed a trip on a sailingbarge on the river Blackwater on 21st May,while <strong>Court</strong> 9737 had a Sunday lunch onthe same day. <strong>Court</strong> 3658 held a very wellattended quiz night on 9th May, whena hard-fought contest resulted in a winfor the team lead by one of the branchtrustees, and together with entrance feesand the raffle raised £120 for East Anglia’sChildren’s Hospices Treehouse Appeal.<strong>Court</strong> 3658 enjoyed a lunch andexhibition on 18th June to celebrate its150th anniversary, and hopes to completethe year with a band concert and buffet on23rd October.SummerSunday lunchThe area will be havingtheir summer Sundaylunch at the George,Hintlesham on 17th July.They will be returningto the same venue forthe area meeting on the20th of August, when thedelegates will be able toreport about what tookplace at <strong>High</strong> <strong>Court</strong>.A royal visitCorinne, the secretaryof <strong>Court</strong> 6203, woke heryoung children in the earlyhours of Friday 29th April,and boarded the trainfor London where theymanaged to secure afront row position for theRoyal Wedding.They enjoyed a fantasticday, soaking up theatmosphere as well as theview. Corinne says it waswell worth the effort for aday they will never forget.East LondonEssex<strong>Court</strong>‘Charterhouse’annual dinnerFifty-sevenmembers andfriends of <strong>Court</strong>‘Charterhouse’enjoyed a superbevening at the branch’s annual dinnerin January. It took place in the veryspecial setting of the Henry VIII suiteat the Marygreen Manor Hotel inBrentwood, Essex.Chief Ranger Lucy Clementswelcomed the Past <strong>High</strong> Chief RangerMichael Grealy together with his wifeShirley to the function. After a veryenjoyable meal, shepresented him with acheque for £500 forhis charity the RNLI,as pictured.The raffle raised £176,which was also donatedto the charity, alongwith further moniesraised from Liz Abbott’ssponsored swim.Flowers were presentedto Lucy, Shirley andCheryl Eagleson (<strong>Court</strong>Secretary) by gentlemenmembers and LorraineWyman. JuniorWoodward presented Lucy witha gift of crystal tumblers.Michael proposed the toast to the<strong>Society</strong> and the branch, and Lucythanked the branch for its help andsupport, and the Secretary for arrangingthe dinner. John Springham was animpeccable Toastmaster.Boating on the riverOn 22nd May, 47 membersand friends of <strong>Court</strong> ‘Duke ofArgyle’ met up in Broxbourne,Hertfordshire for a two-hourboat trip, which included a verywelcome cream tea. It was abeautiful sunny day, and a goodtime was had by all.Great Wall of ChinaLucy Clements will be undergoinga big challenge this September.For 10 days she will be walking80km along the Great Wallof China to raise money forMacmillan Cancer Support.This charity is very close to herheart since losing her Grandma tothe illness.
