GENERAL INFORMATIONPayment of Tuiti<strong>on</strong> & Fees• Tuiti<strong>on</strong> rates for the Fall 2011 semester are established by the Virginia<strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> System and are subject to change. Tuiti<strong>on</strong> rates atthe time of publicati<strong>on</strong> are indicated in the "Tuiti<strong>on</strong> and Fees" secti<strong>on</strong>.• Paying tuiti<strong>on</strong> and fees: Students must pay their tuiti<strong>on</strong> and fees asindicated <strong>on</strong> page 1. The <strong>College</strong> accepts payments via cash, check,m<strong>on</strong>ey order, Visa and MasterCard. Visa and MasterCard paymentscan be made via the web site using the Student Informati<strong>on</strong> System inmy<strong>Tyler</strong> (www.jtcc.edu/my<strong>Tyler</strong>).• Students who do not pay their tuiti<strong>on</strong> and fees when due will bedeleted from all of their classes and will need to re-enroll should theirclasses still be available.• Students will be charged $35 for returned checks due to "insufficientfunds" regardless of "stop payment orders" placed by their banks. Ifthe returned check fee is not paid within 10 days, the fee will increaseto $50.Establishing Virginia Domicile (In-State Tuiti<strong>on</strong>)Students are classified as in-state or out-of-state depending up<strong>on</strong>the informati<strong>on</strong> they provide the instituti<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> their Applicati<strong>on</strong>sfor Admissi<strong>on</strong>. An individual must dem<strong>on</strong>strate residency in Virginiaand intend to remain in Virginia indefinitely to establish domicile.After meeting the requirements to establish domicile, a pers<strong>on</strong> mustc<strong>on</strong>tinue to be domiciled in Virginia for at least 12 m<strong>on</strong>ths precedingthe first day of classes. NOTE: Domicile appeals submitted afterJuly 20, 2011 will not be c<strong>on</strong>sidered until after September 12, 2011.Appellants will have to pay out-of-state tuiti<strong>on</strong> pending the review oftheir appeals after September 12, 2011.Tuiti<strong>on</strong> and Fees RefundStudents may drop classes and receive tuiti<strong>on</strong> refunds through the first15 percent of the class sessi<strong>on</strong>. Students must submit Registrati<strong>on</strong>/Schedule Change forms to Admissi<strong>on</strong>s and Records to drop fromclasses, or they may go <strong>on</strong>line to the Student Informati<strong>on</strong> Systemin my<strong>Tyler</strong> (www.jtcc.edu/my<strong>Tyler</strong>) to drop classes. It is a student’sresp<strong>on</strong>sibility to ascertain the correct refund deadlines for all of his orher classes. The policy is not applicable to n<strong>on</strong>credit courses.No tuiti<strong>on</strong> refunds will be granted after the specified refund dates.Withdrawing without Academic PenaltyStudents may withdraw from classes without academic penaltythrough the first 60 percent of the class sessi<strong>on</strong>. To withdraw from aclass, students may go to the Admissi<strong>on</strong>s and Records office <strong>on</strong> eithercampus, submit a fax to 804-796-4362 or 804-594-1543, or e-mailadmissi<strong>on</strong>sandrecords@jtcc.edu using their VCCS student e-mailaccount. Students cannot withdraw <strong>on</strong>line in my<strong>Tyler</strong>.Financial AidA variety of financial aid packages are available at <strong>John</strong> <strong>Tyler</strong>, includinggrants, loans and work-study. To be c<strong>on</strong>sidered for financial aid for theFall 2011 semester, a student must meet the following requirements:• Be formally admitted in an approved degree or certificatecurriculum.• Complete the FAFSA (Free Applicati<strong>on</strong> for Federal Student Aid). Thiscan be d<strong>on</strong>e <strong>on</strong>line (www.fafsa.gov).• List <strong>John</strong> <strong>Tyler</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> (Code 004004) in the StudentRelease Secti<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> the FAFSA.• Submit any other informati<strong>on</strong> requested by the Financial Aid Officeto update or correct a student’s FAFSA.All of these requirements must be met by 5:00 p.m. <strong>on</strong> July 8, 2011.After this date, students should be prepared to pay for tuiti<strong>on</strong>, feesand books from pers<strong>on</strong>al funds. Financial aid awards will be made <strong>on</strong>a weekly basis after the above deadline. Students who are awardedaid after paying tuiti<strong>on</strong> and fees and purchasing books with pers<strong>on</strong>alfunds will be reimbursed <strong>on</strong>ce their awards have been disbursed to the<strong>College</strong>.All financial aid-related notificati<strong>on</strong>s will be communicated to youthrough your <strong>John</strong> <strong>Tyler</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> (JTCC) e-mail. It isimportant that you m<strong>on</strong>itor your JTCC e-mail and my<strong>Tyler</strong> accounts <strong>on</strong>a regular basis for the most up-to-date financial aid notificati<strong>on</strong>s.Veterans AffairsVeterans, active service members, members of the Guard or Reserve,and their dependents are encouraged to c<strong>on</strong>tact the Office of VeteransAffairs for informati<strong>on</strong> and educati<strong>on</strong>al benefits at JTCC.Disabilities Support ServicesStudents with documented disabilities who require assistance shouldc<strong>on</strong>tact the Counseling Center at least 30 days prior to the beginning ofclasses. Pers<strong>on</strong>s who desire instructi<strong>on</strong>al accommodati<strong>on</strong>s for the Fall2011 semester must make appointments with counselors prior toJuly 18, 2011.C<strong>on</strong>current Enrollment of High School StudentsHigh school students and other pers<strong>on</strong>s under 17 years of age mayenroll at the <strong>College</strong> with the permissi<strong>on</strong> of the dean of studentservices. These students must satisfy the admissi<strong>on</strong> requirementsexpected of all students, as well as provide the instituti<strong>on</strong> with lettersof permissi<strong>on</strong> to enroll from their principals or designees and parents.C<strong>on</strong>current enrollment is restricted to high school juniors and seniors.Excepti<strong>on</strong>al cases require the approval of the <strong>College</strong> president.Dual Enrollment StudentsHigh school students who wish to enroll in <strong>John</strong> <strong>Tyler</strong> courses offeredat their high schools must satisfy all general admissi<strong>on</strong> requirementsand submit a letter of permissi<strong>on</strong> from their high school principals.Students who are interested in dual enrollment courses should call804-706-5170. Dual enrollment is restricted to high school juniors andseniors. Excepti<strong>on</strong>al cases require the approval of the <strong>College</strong> president.Home-Schooled StudentsHome-schooled students may enroll at the <strong>College</strong> with the permissi<strong>on</strong>of the dean of student services. These students must satisfy theadmissi<strong>on</strong> requirements expected of all students, as well as providethe instituti<strong>on</strong> with documentati<strong>on</strong> indicating authorizati<strong>on</strong> fromthe resp<strong>on</strong>sible jurisdicti<strong>on</strong> permitting the student to engage inhome schooling and with a letter of permissi<strong>on</strong> to enroll from theirparents. Home-schooled students must apply and submit all requireddocumentati<strong>on</strong> at least 14 days prior to the beginning of the semesterin which they wish to enroll. Enrollment is restricted to home-schooledstudents studying at the high school junior or senior levels. Excepti<strong>on</strong>alcases require the approval of the <strong>College</strong> president.Pers<strong>on</strong>s without High School Diplomas or GEDsPers<strong>on</strong>s over the age of 18 who do not have high school diplomas orGED certificates may not register for classes until they dem<strong>on</strong>strate anability-to-benefit from instructi<strong>on</strong> as defined by the U.S. Department ofEducati<strong>on</strong>. Such students must make appointments with counselorsafter submitting their Applicati<strong>on</strong>s for Admissi<strong>on</strong>.Senior CitizensTo qualify for the senior citizens educati<strong>on</strong>al benefit, students must beat least 60 years of age. Such students must complete waiver forms inthe Admissi<strong>on</strong>s and Records Office. Eligible students may register forclasses <strong>on</strong> the first day of their classes.Internati<strong>on</strong>al Students<strong>John</strong> <strong>Tyler</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> does not issue I-20 forms or enrollstudents with F-1 visas.
