TORA COMBAT KICKBOXING (Founder Sensei Simon Hengle)INCORPERATING THE ‘SUPERFOOT’ SYSTEM (Founder Sensei Bill Wallace)06/01/2012;As some of the students will already know we were already doing many of Sensei Wallace’stechniques, before we became part of the ‘Superfoot’ System (14/10/2011). As a young manSensei Wallace was the ‘Kickboxer’, and I did my best to imitate his techniques and put theminto my fighting repertoire (serving both myself and my fighters well) after seeing a pictureof him (then a 3 rd Dan) doing his famous knock out hook kick against Bernd Grothe in theWorld Championship finals in 1974. Also *Sensei John Smith was a firm believer in SenseiWallace’s kicking method, and rated it above his friend and great Karate fighter DominiqueValera (a friend of Sensei Wallace as well as Sensei Smith). Our style has already greatly benefited by being part of the ‘Superfoot’ system, especiallywith Sensei Wallace’s (now a 10 th Dan) guidance on his kicking technique, along with hissuperb overall Martial Arts knowledge as well. Another benefit we had through SenseiWallace, was to have both Sensei Joe Lewis (10 th dan) and Sensei Jeff Smith (9 th Dan) aswell as Sensei Wallace at our Dojo on the 28/11/2011, to have all three legends (and theoriginal 1974 World Champions from the USA team) at our Dojo was both an honour and anunforgettable memory for those that were there. On top of that Sensei Joe Lewis and SenseiJeff Smith counter signed my 7 th Dan from Sensei Wallace. This is what Sensei Lewis had to say about our Dojo;“Let me assure all British martial artists know how great both Bill Wallace and I feel thatyour school and staff represent."As a consequence TCK no longer has the ‘Superfoot’ techniques in it that it used to, as theresimply is no need, because we have Sensei’s techniques directly from him, and that simplycan’t be bettered. However everything else including the weapons systems has been retained. So the benefit to you is a superb array of proven techniques, and Martial grades in twodifferent styles!!*Sensei Smith is now an 8 th Dan, co-founder of Bujinkai Karate with the late Danny Conner.Sensei Smith was the first person to promote Full Contact Karate/American Kickboxing inthe UK. He was also the British Karate kumite and Kata champion, and became the Britishteam Captain, as well as being a noted Karate fighter he was also a great teacher andinnovator of British Martial Arts in the 1970’s.The patterns in the system incorporate both the old Tora Combat kickboxing system, and‘Superfoot’ system. They are designed to give you the student a diverse range of proventechniques to work and learn from. They are also designed to ensure that the instructors can easily teach you all aspects of thesystem. This ensures that when you become instructors, you will be able to pass on thatknowledge. When it comes to the kicks, I appreciate that not everyone will be able to kick like SenseiBill ‘Superfoot’ Wallace. So IMHO it is better to kick lower, but kick with the correcttechnique i.e. the knee being brought up tight, pointing up in the right position etc.Adult Grading structure;1. Yellow belt as is2.
