Step right out 

Step Right Out is the smoke free homes scheme created 

by Leicester City NHS and now being rolled out across the 

County as part of the work of the Tobacco-free Leicestershire 

and Rutland alliance. Launched across the County in April the 

scheme is designed to protect children and young people from 

the harm caused by second hand smoke if there are smokers in 

the household. 

Breathing in other peoples tobacco smoke, is known to cause a 

range of disorders from minor eye and throat irritation to heart 

disease and lung cancer. Children are particularly vulnerable to 

the effects of second hand smoke, which can increase the risk of 

cot death, glue ear, asthma and other respiratory disorders. 

For further information pick up a leaflet from the Council Offices 

or your local library and make the promise to Step Right Out and 

keep it smoke free.

East Midlands Airport 

summer activities are back! 

Following the success of the activity sessions held in the Aerozone education centre last summer, 

we have decided to bring them back! The sessions are an opportunity to get involved in a variety 

of activities on the airport site. 

This year open on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s over the holidays, parents can accompany their 

children on an exciting trip to the airport, where they can find out what happens in a fun and 

creative way. 

PROGRAMME OF EVENTS 

Tuesday 24 July and Thursday 26 July 

Meet The Air Traffic Controllers - Terminal visit and activity followed by an Interactive session with 

Air Traffic Control in the Aerozone. 

Tuesday 31 July and Thursday 2 August 

Morning session - The Power of Wind - Make your own mini wind turbine and learn how they are 

used at East Midlands Airport. 

Afternoon session – Working with Willow - Willow is very important to East Midlands Airport. Find 

out why and get creative by making your own willow decoration. 

Tuesday 7 August and Thursday 9 August 

Morning session - Let’s go fly a kite - Planes fly to and from East Midlands Airport everyday. In 

this session children can make their own kite and watch it fly. 

Afternoon session - Art on the Trail - East Midlands Airport has a number of sculptures along the 

6 mile perimeter trail. This is an opportunity to get creative and make your own 3-D artefact to 

take away.

advertised; 10am – 11.30am and 12.30 – 2.00pm. Suggested age: 5 – 11 years. 

Sessions are subject to change.There is a cost to visit the Aerozone summer sessions of £3 per 

child, which is required at the time of booking. Payment can be made by cash or cheque. 

You can combine *Aeropark sessions with a visit to he Aeropark attraction in Castle Donington. 

Chlidren 5+ can visit for just £1.00 (£3 per adult). Booking is essential. Email community@

Sure Start Children's Centres offer FREE of charge support and 

activities for families with children aged 0 - 5 years. They are part 

of a national programme designed to help you to provide the best
