Oh-oh!!!
The shortest day has been and gone, and what a
bumper month for rain it’s been, with the wettest June
this century. And what does that mean? Not a lot!
Just take a drive one day and have a look at a lake or a
reservoir. We drove up to Eppalock and all we saw
was a puddle of muddy water in the far distance. From
the train the Coliban at Malmsbury looks great but don’t
get too excited…the reservoir levels for Coliban Water
are only at 21% full.
In an ‘average’ year the Chewton/Castlemaine district
gets about 218mm by this time of the year We are still
way behind and the spring rains (our heaviest) are still
to come … if we are lucky.

The Chewton Chat is a newsletter published by the Chewton Domain
Society. A subcommittee of Glenn Braybrook, John Ellis (Ed.),Bettie
Exon, Stan Munro, Audrey Richardson and Keith Richardson is responsible
for the publication. Regular volunteers, Wendy and Ian O'Halloran, Barbara
and Allan Dry, Richard Piesse and Don Hawkins amongst others, also help
with production. It is circulated on the first of each month, necessitating
a deadline of the 25th of the month before. Material can be left at the
Chewton Post Office, with any of the sub-committee members, call 5472
2892 or e-mail goldenpt@castlemaine.net.au Contributions of ideas,
news items, articles, and letters are always welcome; as are advertisements
that help meet monthly production costs. Circulation is via the Chewton
Post Office, Chewton General Store, Chewton Pet Supplies and the Red
Hill Hotel. Whilst copies are free, there are donation tins at each collection
point. Subscriptions for mailed copies can be arranged.
The Chewton Chat can also be downloaded each month from
www.chewton.net
Circulation is now 500.
