<strong>Manchester</strong> <strong>Parks</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Recreation</strong> <strong>Department</strong>Summer Aquatics Training Schedule2012TRAINING DESCRIPTIONSBlood Borne Pathogens/ Suspicious Persons Training: This course must be taken every year by ALL aquatics staff. This is the only class that will beoffered to aquatic personnel by the <strong>Manchester</strong> <strong>Recreation</strong> <strong>Department</strong>. The course is scheduled for Tuesday, June 19 at the <strong>Manchester</strong> Police<strong>Department</strong> Community Room. *Please make a note of the location! Attendance is m<strong>and</strong>atory.Preseason Aquatics Training <strong>and</strong> Testing: This training is required for ALL aquatics staff. This paid training will be held on Saturday, June 9 from 9 –3 pm. Lunch will NOT be provided; there will be an hour break in between the morning <strong>and</strong> afternoon sessions. The training will consist of LGT testing,physical endurance, safety seminar, <strong>and</strong> scenario sessions. Come prepared with a bathing suit, towel, comfortable clothes, <strong>and</strong> whistles. The morningsession will be held at Mahoney <strong>Recreation</strong> center <strong>and</strong> the afternoon session at Globe Hollow (rain location, Mahoney <strong>Recreation</strong> Center). Staff isrequired to be at each session at least 10 minutes before program begins.H<strong>and</strong>book Review / Uniform Distribution/Instruction Training: This program is m<strong>and</strong>atory for ALL aquatics staff. It will be held on Monday, June 18from 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 noon at the Community. At this time you will receive all necessary paperwork <strong>and</strong> uniforms.Site Visits: This is considered a scheduled day of work for all aquatics staff. It is at this time that each pool will receive their equipment along with gettingtheir facility ready for the start of the season. Head guards will go over expectations for staff <strong>and</strong> a full cleaning of the facility will occur at this time. Inservicetraining <strong>and</strong> water rescues will be conducted. Come prepared with bathing suits, towels, <strong>and</strong> any other needed supplies for the day. A morespecific description of duties to be done will be given at the H<strong>and</strong>book Review date. Please see dates for your pool’s specific time.Lifeguard Training Recertification: Any guard who received their certification in 2009, or years prior, are required to attend this training. Lifeguardtraining recertification will take place June 5 <strong>and</strong> 7 from 7:30-9:30 pm. The June 5 training will take place at <strong>Manchester</strong> High School Main Pool <strong>and</strong> theJune 7 training will take place at the Community Y <strong>Recreation</strong> Center. There is a fee for this course. Pre-registration <strong>and</strong> payment is required prior tothe start of the class. Registration for the course will be taken at the Community Y <strong>Recreation</strong> Center.Swim Lesson Registration: Head Lifeguards in charge of pools offering swim lesson are required to attend the swim lesson registration at the CommunityY during the pools designated time. If a Head Guard is unable to attend then it is their job to find an appropriate substitute. Registration for all threesessions will be conducted on Saturday, June 2 from 9am to 12 pm. Please reference the attached sheet for pool time of registration.Head Lifeguard Meeting: This meeting is m<strong>and</strong>atory for all head lifeguards. The meeting will take place at the Community Y on Tuesday, June 12 at5:00 p.m.WSI Meeting: This meeting is m<strong>and</strong>atory for all Water Safety Instructors who will be teaching swim lessons this summer.
