NHOA draft SLA has been provided by the IMB regarding the transfer of thestatutory reporting functions from the NHO to the IMB. An internal meeting isdue to take place this week to review the draft and ensure that it puts thenecessary safeguards in place to address IBTS concerns.3. Chief Executive’s Report<strong>Blood</strong> supplyThere was a dip in attendance in May, but this did not impact on supply tohospitals. Additional measures were taken to increase attendance. The IBTSis now focusing on specific blood groups to tailor supply to meet demand.Texting is proving useful, however where sufficient supply in a particularblood group exists, donors are asked not to attend clinics and the responsefrom donors to this approach has been mixed.Demand for platelets has been very volatile this year, month on month declinein usage at the beginning of the year has been followed by significantincrease in demand in May. There was also an increase in red cell usage inMay following a decrease in previous months.Review of activities – drive for efficiencies and cost savingsThe four task groups reported to the EMT on 10 th <strong>June</strong> and these proposalswere discussed at length at a meeting of the EMT on 15 th <strong>June</strong>.The CE asked the <strong>Board</strong> if there were any particular areas of the business oractivities that the <strong>Board</strong> felt should not be considered as part of the review.The <strong>Board</strong> confirmed that it was happy for the EMT to progress all of theoptions at this point. The CE confirmed that the proposals would be broughtto the <strong>Board</strong> in July for its consideration and that there was additional work tobe carried out on costings and scenario planning to support some of themeasures being proposed, but that this would be completed in time for theJuly <strong>Board</strong> meeting.It was agreed that a proposed timescale for progressing this process throughthe <strong>Board</strong> and its sub-committee structure would also be included in the July<strong>Board</strong> papers.Health & SafetyThere have been 3 reportable incidents to date this year.Discussions with unionsChanges to the clinic in Cork will now be implemented on 29 th August. Thedelay is due to the decision to move to nurse led only for the hybrid clinic hasrequired a programme of training for the nurses concerned.Virology ContingencyThe consolidation of virology in the NBC is scheduled to take place on 1 stDecember, however this date is dependent on the SNBTS being able todeliver the project, particularly the IT element at their end.Staffing issuesPage 2 of 5
