Zero Accidents: It’s 

not about numbers, 

it’s about people. 

the “We all take care” initiative encourages every single employee to contribute his/her

a responsibility for safety at work and environmental protection. the strategic goal of 

occupational safety is to achieve zero accidents. 

Annual awards presented for outstanding projects motivate individual teams to identify 

with health and safety at the workplace and the protection of the environment. Positive 

contributions can be emulated, thus bringing continuous improvements for the entire 

company. Freudenberg has had a low accident rate compared with the industry sector 

for many years. 

the situation with regard to environmental protection is a similar one. many of the 

company’s environmental measures go well beyond the legal requirements. Well over 

75% of the Freudenberg Group’s production sites around the world have already 

been certified to Iso 14001 – and all production sites have to get this international 

certification.

envIronmentAL ProteCtIon At FreudenberG – 

An eXAmPLe: Green PLAnt In suZHou 

A prime example for environmental protection at Freudenberg in China is the nonwovens 

production plant in suzhou. 

Precise instructions for employees including checklists on how to save energy: that is the 

secret of success at the suzhou “green plant”. Lots of little actions every day, such as 

taking care to switch off the lights or closing the doors in air-conditioned rooms, can save 

an enormous amount of money each year. Production processes at the site are continuously 

improved in order to preserve valuable resources such as water or gas. that is why 

the nonwovens facility in suzhou has already been cited several times as one of the best 

plants in China: the Chinese government has in fact presented the factory with its “green 

industry” award on four occasions. 

being at the forefront of environmental-friendly technology is part of the ‘genetic code’ 

of Freudenberg. the Group has an increasingly extensive portfolio of environmentallyfriendly 

products and production methods around the world.

soCIAL resPonsIbILItY At FreudenberG – 

eArtHQuAKe sCHooL ProJeCt 

the Freudenberg Group has rebuilt the Ke de bao Primary school in Haijin village near 

Jiangyou, one of the towns that was hard hit by the terrible sichuan earthquake on 

may 12, 2008. As a measure of help and solidarity for the affected people, the German 

family-owned company launched this long-term aid project, exceeding rmb 3 million, 

together with the local education authorities. the project was set up and is managed by 

volunteers from the Group. 

A two-storey classroom building of nearly 1,000m² accommodates up to 300 children. 

the school grounds include a canteen of 120m2 , a playground, a sports ground and 

a boundary wall. As an emergency measure, employees of Freudenberg had already 

donated winter clothes in december 2008 to enable children to attend school in the 

unheated temporary buildings. the school was officially opened on August 31, 2009, 

in time for the beginning of the new school year as one of the first reconstructed school 

buildings from foreign donors. 

Freudenberg`s support for this school has not ended with its opening. during a 7-day 

summer Camp in July 2010, 60 Freudenberg associates from all business Groups in 

mainland China, Hong Kong and taiwan, came in groups to the school to teach Chinese 

traditional Culture, english and sports – mostly at their own expense and giving up their 

free time. In addition, 4 professors and 4 students from tsinghua university in beijing 

participated and gave english lessons to the teachers and students of the school.

A famous Chinese saying goes “If you plan for one year – sow rice; if you plan for a 

decade – plant trees; if you plan for a lifetime – educate people.” Freudenberg strongly

for its business. ongoing training and further education according to its employees´ level 

of expertise and competency profile are therefore important cornerstones of the Human 

resources policy. to underline the Group´s commitment to this, the China executive team, 

chaired by Hanno d. Wentzler, President and Ceo of Freudenberg Chemical specialities 

KG and regional representative China for the Freudenberg Group, was established. 

High Potentials, who have already gained some years work experience, have the opportunity 

of furthering their careers in a professional and dynamic working environment 

by participating in the Freudenberg China talent summit. every two years the China 

executive team carefully selects Chinese talents from across the Freudenberg companies 

to participate in this two-year structured management program. the aim is to prepare 

the program members for a potential leadership role. It includes for example management 

and leadership related soft skills training, seminars and presentations. through this 

training program, the company hopes to create a learning environment and allow the
