Our guidelines are changing forfemale donors under 20 years oldWhat is changing?New donation guidelines have been introducedfor female blood donors under 20 years of age, taking account of both height and weight. If youare under 20 years old and over 5’ 6” (168cm) inheight, or if you are under 20 years old and over10st 3lb (65kg) in weight, the changes do notapply to you, and you can come along todonate. If, however, you are a female under 20years of age, and you are either under 5’ 6”(168cm) in height or under 10st 3lb (65kg) inweight, your height and weight will need to betaken into consideration and those who DONOT meet the new guidelines will be unable todonate for the time being.Once you have reached your 20th birthday,or if your weight increases to meet our criteriabefore your 20th birthday, please do come backto donate. Why is this changing?New donation research and medical evidencehas shown that based on height and weight, young female donors of smaller build asindicated in the chart are at an increased riskof fainting following blood donation.Does the change apply to me if I havealready given a problem free donation?Yes, this change applies to new and existingdonors, it is a national guideline which is beingintroduced by all UK services. We understandthat this may be very disappointing for ourdonors who will not be able to donate.Height and weight chart * for female blood and platelet donors between 17 and 19 years oldMetric height - Centimeters149cm or less150cm151cm152cm153cm154cm155cm156cm157cm158cm159cm160cm161cm162cm163cm164cm165cm166cm167cm168cm or more7st 12lb110lbMetric weight - Kilograms50 Kg51 Kg52 Kg53 Kg54 Kg55 Kg56 Kg57 Kg58 Kg59 Kg60 Kg61 Kg62 Kg63 Kg64 Kg8st112lb8st 3lb115lb8st 5lb117lb8st 7lb119lb8st 9lb121lb8st 11lb123lbImperial weight - Stones/pounds9st126lb9st 2lb128lb9st 4lb130lb9st 6lb132lb9st 8lb134lb9st 11lb137lb9st 13lb139lb10st 1lb141lb4’ 10” or less4’ 11”4’ 11 ”5’ ”5’ 1 ”5’ 2”5’ 3”5’ 4”5’ 4 ”5’ 5”5’ 6” or moreImperial height - Feet/inchesunableto donateableto donate* Chart is indicativeof the nadler chart.
