TEACHER MATERIALSELEMENTARY SCHOOL ACTIVITYOverviewThis guide has been developed for the elementary schoolclassroom, and has been designed to encourage participation ofstudents and to serve as a model for active participation in thecommunity. During the Pre-Visit Activity, students will be introducedto the National Constitution Center and provided with informationon what they will experience during their visit. Students previewtheir experience by creating an image in their minds of what theirvisit may be like.During the visit, students will follow an activity trail through thepermanent exhibit. Each stop includes experiencing one of theexhibit’s interactives, as well as some discussion questions. Theactivities can be led by a teacher or chaperone, or can be studentself-guided. The theme throughout the trail is active citizenship, and the rights and responsibilities of citizens. Each stop will wrapup with a “Rights, Responsibilities and Citizenship” question thatchallenges students to take what they have learned from the activityand apply it to their own lives. To wrap up the previous discussions, the final stop is focused on what makes an active citizen.MATERIALS LISTSTUDENT WORKSHEETSPRE-VISIT LESSONp.6 The Story of the NationalConstitution Center (Teacher Edition)p.7-8The Story of the NationalConstitution Center (Student Edition)p.9-10 Map HandoutsVISIT ACTIVITYp.14-15 Constitutional Notebookp.17 Activity Trail Data Sheet4 © National Constitution CenterPOST-VISIT LESSONp.18 What Makes an Active Citizen?
