SeminarsApproximately six (6) mandatory seminars are held throughout the semester on the Carroll Collegecampus from 4-5:30 p.m. We use these times to discuss key issues, meet with your collegesupervisors in small groups, and have guest speakers present information. Your cooperating teachercan help arrange for you to leave your participating school at a time so that you can arrive on campuspromptly. Attendance is taken, and failure to attend will result in a lowered grade.9. Student Teaching JournalsThe Carroll College Education Department strives to help student teachers develop a repertoire ofmethods for instructing and managing students. The ability to reflect upon and evaluate one’sinstructional practice is essential in improving and growing as a professional. To that end, studentteaching journals that reflect upon your day-to-day experiences from the past week are required by thebeginning of the next week. Your college supervisor will read and comment on your entries. Pleaseconsult with your College Supervisor concerning the preferred method of submitting your weeklyjournal entry—email, faxing, or submitting hard copies to the Education office.Guidelines for Student Teachers’ Weekly JournalsC.L.A.S.P.During the Carroll College Student Teaching experience, student teachers are required to completereflective daily journals and submit them to their College Supervisors on a weekly basis. This maybe done using email, faxing, or submitting hard copies to the Education office.Every week student teachers must address each of the following topics in their journal entries at leastonce:CLASPCommunications and PartnershipsCommunication and collaboration with the community, families, students, colleaguesLearning Management and MotivationClassroom management, discipline, and motivation to learnAssessmentFormal and informal Evaluation or Measurement of student performance, and how thatinformation is used in instructional practice.Subject Material / ContentInstruction use of materials, procedures, and information to address the needs of learners andmeet school-based curriculum standards and grade level expectations.Planning and AdaptingAccommodating the learning needs of all students through differentiation and adaptation ofthe curriculum; the use of techniques and strategies should reflect an understanding oflearners’ cognitive, emotional, and physical differences10
