historians of netherlandish art Historians of Netherlandish Art is an international or ga ni za tion founded in 1983 to foster com mu ni ca tion and col lab o ra tion among historians of Northern European art from medieval to modern times. Its mem ber ship comprises scholars, teachers, museum pro fes sion als, art dealers, publishers, book dealers, and collectors throughout the world. The art and architecture of the Netherlands (Dutch and Flemish), and of Germany and France, as it relates to the Netherlands, from about 1350 to 1750, forms the core of mem bers’ interests. Current membership com pris es around 650 individuals, institutions and businesses. HNA organizes and sponsors a major research conference every four years. It also holds an annual meeting in con junc tion with College Art Association conferences, where mem bers share interests and information in debates, symposia, or lectures. HNA offers news of exhibitions, acquisitions and other museum news, conferences, recent pub li ca tions, and members’ ac tiv i ties, as well as extensive book re views on its webpage at www. hnanews.org. Twice a year this in for ma tion is also offered in hard copy. A Mem ber ship Directory is available on HNA’s website. HNA grew out of a national symposium on Netherlandish art held in the spring of 1982 at Memphis State University. Its initial research conference, held at the University of Pitts burgh in 1985, drew over two hundred participants from seven coun tries. The Pittsburgh meeting set the standard for fi ve further international conferences held in Cleveland (1989), Boston (1993), Baltimore (1998), Antwerp (2002), Baltimore/Washington (2006), and Amsterdam (2010). HNA has been an affi liated society of the College Art As so ci a tion since 1984, and was in cor po rat ed in New York State as a not-for-profi t corporation in 1988. Membership in Historians of Netherlandish Art is open to any individual or organization interested in the study of Neth er land ish, German and Franco-Flemish art and ar chi tec ture, whether as a vocation or avocation. Membership priv i leg es include participation in HNA activities annually at College Art As so ci a tion meetings and at HNA-sponsored conferences, access to the online Newsletter and Review of Books, the Membership Directory, and the hard copy version of the HNA Newsletter and Review of Books.
