This list is a compilation of <strong>the</strong> most frequently asked questions we receive. Please takea m<strong>in</strong>ute to read c<strong>are</strong>fully to see if your question can be answered below or on our website.Thanks <strong>in</strong> advance!What is <strong>ODP</strong>?<strong>ODP</strong> is a US Soccer National <strong>Program</strong> designed to identify and develop talented youth soccer players throughout <strong>the</strong>country to represent <strong>the</strong>ir state, region and national team programs at <strong>the</strong> highest-level of soccer competition. At <strong>the</strong>first level, <strong>the</strong> Utah Youth Soccer Association (UYSA) identifies a pool of players <strong>in</strong> <strong>each</strong> of <strong>the</strong> appropriate agegroups. These players <strong>are</strong> identified and selected from tryouts <strong>held</strong> across <strong>the</strong> state. This program is a supplementto <strong>the</strong> player’s Club, Competitive or High School Teams. More <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation about <strong>ODP</strong> can be found on our website.Please note that all <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation and changes perta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g to <strong>ODP</strong> <strong>are</strong> posted on our website. It is important that you getused to check<strong>in</strong>g this site on a regular basis.What age is eligible to participate <strong>in</strong> <strong>ODP</strong>?<strong>ODP</strong> is structured on a calendar <strong>year</strong> (January 1 st through December 31 st ). The age groups recognized <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> 2012-13 seasonal <strong>year</strong> <strong>are</strong> those players born <strong>in</strong>: 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002. There <strong>are</strong> no exceptions to<strong>the</strong>se age groups.Where and When <strong>are</strong> <strong>Tryouts</strong> <strong>held</strong>?<strong>Tryouts</strong> will be <strong>held</strong> <strong>in</strong> Hyde Park, Layton, Salt Lake Valley, Orem & St. George. For selection purposes, players<strong>are</strong> strongly encouraged to attend tryouts at more than one site. Once <strong>the</strong> actual sites <strong>are</strong> secured, we will post that<strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation to our website. It is always a good idea to access <strong>the</strong> Calendar of Events be<strong>for</strong>e travel as locations andtimes can and do change. Your registrationcovers all four tryout sessions. So, <strong>for</strong> one price you can attend as many tryouts as you wish. We recommend youattend at least 2. To avoid <strong>the</strong> $20 late charge <strong>for</strong> sign<strong>in</strong>g up late or at <strong>the</strong> tryouts, please have your onl<strong>in</strong>eregistration completed by <strong>November</strong> 3rd. We will not be able to guarantee a 2012-13 tryout t-shirt to thoseplayers register<strong>in</strong>g after <strong>October</strong> 25.. What do <strong>the</strong>y do at <strong>Tryouts</strong>?Each tryout consists of a three hour “tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g” period. <strong>Tryouts</strong> generally consist of tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g exercises and games that<strong>are</strong> assessed by UYSA <strong>ODP</strong> Staff who evaluate players based on <strong>the</strong>ir technical, tactical, psychological and physicaldevelopment <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> game.How does <strong>the</strong> selection process work and what comes next?After tryouts, a maximum of up to 48 players <strong>are</strong> selected <strong>in</strong> <strong>each</strong> age group, some age groups may have less than48. Selection notification is done prior to Thanksgiv<strong>in</strong>g and will be posted on <strong>the</strong> website.. Exception: The 2001and 2002 age groups have a modified tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g schedule.W<strong>in</strong>ter tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g will take place at selected venues along <strong>the</strong> Wasatch Front. Currently, we utilize BYU, NewparkIndoor (Park City), Juan Diego High School (outdoors), University of Utah (outdoors) and Ultimate Indoor.Occasionally, (wea<strong>the</strong>r permitt<strong>in</strong>g) we <strong>are</strong> outside, you will need to check c<strong>are</strong>fully and dress appropriately. Theschedule will be posted on <strong>the</strong> website when it is f<strong>in</strong>alized. Please check <strong>the</strong> website on a regular basis.From <strong>the</strong> w<strong>in</strong>ter tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g pool, a team of 18 is selected to attend <strong>the</strong> <strong>ODP</strong> Championships, <strong>held</strong> <strong>in</strong> Las Vegas <strong>in</strong>January. (It is anticipated, we will take players from <strong>the</strong> 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000 age groups.). In March,players <strong>are</strong> selected <strong>in</strong> <strong>each</strong> age group to attend a <strong>ODP</strong> Camp. Additional players will be identified and willcont<strong>in</strong>ue to tra<strong>in</strong> with <strong>the</strong> team as alternates <strong>in</strong> case of <strong>in</strong>jury or o<strong>the</strong>r circumstances. Exception: The players <strong>in</strong><strong>the</strong> 2001 and 2002 age groups only will keep <strong>the</strong>ir pool of 48. The 2001 and 2002 age groups will have NO outof state travel.Additional <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation about <strong>the</strong> Mounta<strong>in</strong> States Friendlies and any out of state tournaments will be posted to <strong>the</strong>website as soon as <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation is available. Limited, partial fund<strong>in</strong>g is available <strong>for</strong>families whose child could not o<strong>the</strong>rwise participate. In special cases, UYSA can provide an <strong>in</strong>stallment payment plan. If you <strong>for</strong>esee a f<strong>in</strong>ancialproblem, applications <strong>for</strong> f<strong>in</strong>ancial assistance or requests <strong>for</strong> an <strong>in</strong>stallment plan <strong>are</strong> available to players. Applications must be received well <strong>in</strong>advance of any scheduled event <strong>for</strong> which you <strong>are</strong> apply<strong>in</strong>g <strong>for</strong> f<strong>in</strong>ancial assistance. So, we have a letter on our website that we ask you to use. This letter can be sent to familymembers, neighbors, friends, bus<strong>in</strong>esses, doctors, dentists etc. It works well <strong>for</strong> many players. We encourage all players to utilize thissponsorship letter, however, ALL players request<strong>in</strong>g f<strong>in</strong>ancial assistance will have to send out 20 of <strong>the</strong>se letters prior to be<strong>in</strong>g considered<strong>for</strong> assistance. It has a great success rate and can be a valuable tool if you need f<strong>in</strong>ancial assistance to participate <strong>in</strong> <strong>ODP</strong>. An updatedcopy of this letter will be posted to our website <strong>in</strong> <strong>October</strong>. You can f<strong>in</strong>d it on <strong>the</strong> <strong>ODP</strong> page. We work diligently to keep <strong>the</strong> costs of <strong>ODP</strong>reasonable. However, it does cost money, please make arrangements to pay <strong>ODP</strong> fees <strong>in</strong> a timely manner.
