For the 2014-15 Coca-Cola Real BusinessChallenge, students were asked to create asoft drink product and packaging to raisemoney for athletes to go to the <strong>2015</strong> SpecialOlympics in Los Angeles.Year 9 students formed teams in their ProductDesign classes. They experimented withflavour combinations, created a finance andmarketing plan alongside their designs andbranding of their idea. Votes were cast inclass and each group were scored to find thebest idea to send off to Coca-Cola for judging.All groups were very creative, however theentry requirements were best met by teamCOLD. 9,000 students from London enteredthe challenge and COLD did extremely well tothen be selected for the London final by Coca-Cola.left the event feeling very fortunate for theexperience they had been given and elated byhow well they had been treated during theday.A big congratulations to all the students thatattended: Sara Abdalla, Mae Parker-Barnby,Shayma Abdulkadir, Wiktoria Popiel, RiaMolloy, Lucy Hodge-Sellers, Shaziya Begum,Sara Abdalla.“The fundamental idea of the projectis for students to improve theiremployability profile and develop lifeskills with a live project. Gettingexperience in presenting and workingin a competitive environment in ateam, learning new skills and beingcreative in a viable way was incrediblyvaluable learning!”Miss Fairhurst Teacher of D&TThe finals were held at The Oval CricketGround on 29th January. The 10 Londonschool team finalists were given a furtherchallenge to create a social media plan, learnApp design, create a bus stop poster and carryout event planning including financialforecasting. Each team had a business mentorfrom Coca-Cola working with them to supporttheir efforts. Calves, a mobile application(App) design company, held a workshop indeveloping Apps for phones and tablets whichwas brilliant.After working hard all day the teams wereeach asked to present their work to a judgingpanel from Coca-Cola who picked a winner.Although we did not win this time, thestudents had an amazing experience and evenhad a working lunch! They showed greateffort throughout the day and were treatedvery well with drinks, cakes, pastries andchocolates at regular points in the day. They
