SCHOLARSHIPS
The Bob Ware Memorial Scholarship was established
in 1975 to award scholarships to Alamo Heights seniors
whose achievements are above expectations
and are involved in extra-curricular activities at AHHS.
2011 Recipient: Clay Boggess
The Oma E. Vordenbaum Scholarship was established
in 1977 for graduating seniors enrolled in Alamo Heights
High School seeking higher education. The recipients
have many of the qualities Mrs. Vordenbaum exemplifi
ed herself and valued in others, including intellectual
curiosity and a love of learning, perseverance and
seriousness of purpose, an honest and direct approach,
sincerity, trustworthiness, unselfi shness, neatness
in work and appearance, and respect for others.
2011 Recipients: Cecilia Becerra and Joclyn Bosquez
The W. W. and Anna May Campbell Scholarship
was established in 1985 to provide scholarships for
graduates of Alamo Heights High School who are attending
state or other publicly supported schools
and who are sophomores or above in class standing.
Recipients of the Campbell Scholarships are selected
based on scholastic ability and fi nancial need.
2011 Recipients: Dakota Bowen, Liliana Escamilla,
Austin Gay, Michelle Gonzaba, Hillary Hendry, Kathleen
Johnson, Gage Liesman, and Audrey Pfeil
The Shirley Fitch English Memorial Scholarship
was established in 1985 to award an annual scholarship
for a graduating senior who has demonstrated
academic eff ort, improvement, perseverance
and has demonstrated school spirit
through involvement in extracurricular activities.
2011 Recipient: Audrey Stipe
The Jon McWilliams Memorial Award is presented
to a student-athlete who, most importantly, is a decent,
honest young person, and a worthy citizen
of the school and larger community. The recipient
is a good student who has shown determination,
and who, through spirit and dedication, has worked
to achieve his or her personal best in competitive
athletics representing Alamo Heights High School.
2011 Recipient: Carter Thurmond
The McPherson Family Memorial Scholarship Award
was established for a graduating senior female athlete
of Alamo Heights High School. Selection is made
by the Coaching Staff and the Athletic Director of the
High School. Qualities to be used as a guide in making
the selection include team spirit, honesty, self-sacrifi ce,
an unselfi sh attitude, dedication to the team and the
sport, fairness, courtesy, perseverance, self-determination,
good attendance in workouts and academic performance.
