<strong>Service</strong> <strong>of</strong> RI is the first Ocean State organization to belong to this<br />
network, which was established by Congress in 2000 to raise the standard<br />
<strong>of</strong> care and increase access to services for traumatized children and<br />
their families.<br />
The City <strong>of</strong> Providence, utilizing federal stimulus dollars, has awarded<br />
<strong>Family</strong> <strong>Service</strong> <strong>of</strong> RI a nearly million dollar grant to prevent homelessness<br />
in the community. Lucy’s Hearth, a <strong>Family</strong> <strong>Service</strong> <strong>of</strong> RI affiliate, received<br />
over a half million in stimulus dollars to lead a similar effort on Aquidneck<br />
<strong>Island</strong>.<br />
AIDS Project RI, a division <strong>of</strong> <strong>Family</strong><br />
<strong>Service</strong> <strong>of</strong> RI, moved its annual Walk<br />
for Life back into downtown Providence<br />
after several years in less visible locations,<br />
and held the event in the fall for<br />
the first time. The move was designed<br />
to increase awareness <strong>of</strong> HIV/AIDS and<br />
to heighten involvement <strong>of</strong> the city’s<br />
college students.<br />
