Enlightenment in Dialogue – ProgrammeThe “Enlightenment in Dialogue” series comprises five dialogue blocks whichcontinue for the entire duration of the exhibition. The following dialogues will betaking place at the National Museum of China from spring 2011 to spring 2012:---Dialogue I: The Art of the Enlightenment – The History of an ExhibitionDate: 2 April 2011, 9.00 am to 12.00 pmThe first dialogue describes how the exhibition “The Art of the Enlightenment” came about. Italso introduces visitors to the sites of the collections from which the exhibited artworks weretaken and explores the reasons for choosing this exhibition theme.---Dialogue II: Enlightenment and ArtDate: 14 July 2011, 9.00 am to 12.00 pmThis dialogue is devoted to the Enlightenment and its relationship to art.---Dialogue III: Enlightenment and Its Chinese HistoryDate: 9 September 2011, 9.00 am to 12.00 pmEnlightenment is an omnipresent phenomenon that cannot be limited to a single event inEuropean history. This dialogue is therefore dedicated to Chinese facets of the Enlightenmentin both China and Europe.---Dialogue IV: Enlightenment and the Modern AgeDate: 17 November 2011, 9.00 am to 12.00 pmIn this dialogue we will be examining the relationship between the Enlightenment and themodern age.---Dialogue V: Enlightenment and Cultures of KnowledgeDate: 22 March 2012, 9.00 am to 12.00 pmThe Enlightenment brought with it a change in the way knowledge was organized andclassified, not only in Europe, but also in China, albeit at a later date.
