<strong>Concordia</strong>’s Sport Highlights<br />

TRACK & FIELD<br />

MEN: Setting four meet records<br />

and capturing nine event titles, the<br />

Cavaliers won their seventh straight<br />

Cascade Collegiate Conference<br />

(CCC) Championship, which was<br />

held in Klamath Falls, Ore. After<br />

earning CCC Coach of the Year<br />

honors, Randy Dalzell led the men<br />

to a 4th-place finish at the NAIA<br />

National Championships where<br />

Nate Moses (discus) and Eric<br />

Whalen (shot put) captured national<br />

championships in their respective<br />

events. Additional All-American<br />

honors included: Jesse Staub (3rd,<br />

javelin); Jasen Brown (4th, 800),<br />

Whalen (4th, javelin); Branko<br />

Djuricic (5th, triple jump), Bo<br />

Johnson (6th, hammer), Moses (7th, shot put), Ismael Osorio (7th, discus),<br />

Tim Wyland (7th, javelin), and Jordan Reeher (8th, 400 hurdles). Finally,<br />

joining Brown and Reeher on the men’s 1,600-meter relay team, Edgar<br />

Vazquez and Andre Washington also earned All-America status.<br />

TRACK & FIELD WOMEN: After winning the NAIA Outdoor<br />

title last season (see article on page 28), the <strong>Concordia</strong> women nearly<br />

defended their crown by placing second at nationals this year. Five Cavs<br />

won national titles over the three-day<br />

meet held in Marion, Ind. Sharayah<br />

Kenady opened the meet with a win<br />

in the hammer and was followed<br />

by Kayla Xavier earning a repeat<br />

in the shot put. On the final day,<br />

Junia Limage (800), Gabriella<br />

Dixson (discus) and Lauren Moran<br />

(steeplechase) added championship<br />

hardware for <strong>Concordia</strong>. Other<br />

All-Americans for CU were: Dixson<br />

(2nd, shot put), Xavier (2nd, discus),<br />

NyEma Sims (3rd, 100; 5th, 200),<br />

Aria Nojima (5th, javelin) and<br />

Emily Painter (8th, 10,000) Prior to<br />

nationals, the Cavs won their sixth<br />

straight CCC crown where Sims was<br />

named the Female Track Athlete of<br />

the Meet.<br />

30 concordia connection<br />

GOLF MEN: The Cavs won four<br />

of the five conference tournaments on<br />

the way to their fifth straight CCC title.<br />

The Cavs won the title by 96 strokes over<br />

Corban <strong>University</strong> and placed Jesse Heinly<br />

and Jed Dalton on the All-CCC team,<br />

including Player of the Year honors by<br />

Heinly. Just the second men’s individual<br />

in Cavalier history to qualify, Heinly<br />

went on to represent <strong>Concordia</strong> at the<br />

NAIA National Championships held at<br />

Creekside Golf Course in Salem, Ore. and<br />

was named Second Team All-American.<br />

GOLF WOMEN: Like the men, the<br />

<strong>Concordia</strong> women won four of the five<br />

CCC tournaments and wrapped up their<br />

fifth straight CCC title. Sara Molyneux<br />

earned Player of the year honors while<br />

teammates Sunny Powers and Holly Speer<br />

were also named to the All-CCC team.<br />

The Cavs went on to win their first ever<br />

NAIA qualifying tournament and placed<br />

12th at nationals which were held in<br />

Greeneville, Tenn.
