Unless you haveZipper’s products or parts that were previouslypurchased from Zipper’s, do not send parts with yourjob to Zipper’s.Most components require some importantcleaning and/or preparation steps before workcan be performed. Because improper cleaningmethods can actually do more harm than good, wesuggest you allow us to properly prepare your partsfor modification. Extreme care is taken during ourpreparation process to preserve component finishes.Reasonable additional charges do apply for theseservices. Engine and transmission componentsshould be washed free of oil and wrapped in heavynewspaper before being put in protective cartons. Astandard charge (usually $4.50) is billed to each workorder to cover shop costs for chemical disposal andother materials used during the processing of a job.How To Order and Ship forMachine Shop ServicesSometimes we receive boxes from ourcustomers that contain parts and major componentswithout any note of instruction on what is asked of us,sometimes without even a return address or a phonenumber! Unfortunately, we have to just sit on theparts until somebody starts wondering why it’s takingso long for us to get back with them. So, before youship something to us for Machine Shop Services, please read the following instructions.Download the page from our web sitetitled “Zipper’s Job Order Sheet” or call and we’llfax or email you one. Be sure to fill it out entirely, orenclose a note with the following:Year, make, model, engine size, mileageand current modifications, if any. It gives ussomewhere to start if we have questions.Explain the nature of the work you wantperformed.Include a cell phone number, daytime andevening phone numbers with fax or e-mail if available. If we have questions or need more information, or justwant to let you know we’re ready to ship your partsback, these numbers come in really handy.Package parts carefully. Items such asheads and cylinders should be first washed cleanof oil and individually wrapped in heavy newspaper(a whole section per part works well), then placedin individual boxes or at the very least separatedby strips of heavy cardboard and more newspaperpadding. Remember your box is going to be thrownaround during shipping a lot and could be damagedbeyond use if not packaged properly. Heavycardboard boxes and cardboard barriers between theparts to protect them are essential (UPS requires atleast 2” of padding around packaged components).Neither the freight company nor Zipper’s can takeresponsibility for poorly packaged parts. Don’t usebubble wrap on top end parts! A top end wrapped inbubble wrap will get to us sounding like a big, heavybaby rattle, with all the bubbles popped long beforethe boxes reach us. At any rate, always insure yourparts for replacement value, but remember, even ifyour parts are insured, you may not be reimbursedfor damages if they are not properly packaged.Allow for shipping and receiving time.
