His props are confined to cloth,fan and vase with two rose heads, the space created with a seriesof subtle triangulations. A fallen rose petal (while not necessarilyladen with symbolic significance!) is completely necessary forthe balance of the composition.<strong>Peploe</strong> began to exhibit about this time and, never prolific,this work might well have been included in his first solo show at<strong>The</strong> <strong>Scottish</strong> <strong>Gallery</strong> in 1903.8
