I firmly believe that education should aid students in becoming well rounded individuals;not just well academically knowledgeable individuals. In order to ensure that the students arewell rounded, progressivists believe education must stand on a few main purposes; to developstudents physically, mentally, socially and morally. Many believe that students should be taughtmainly how to fit into society and emphasize how educations purpose should be to raise up goodcitizens. While I find some <strong>of</strong> this to be true, I do not believe that education should be centeredaround making good citizens. <strong>Education</strong> should be centered first and foremost on the student.This being said, we must, for their own wellbeing, ensure the development <strong>of</strong> students’ physical,mental, social, and moral needs. By teaching children about physical means we are teachingstudents how to live healthy lives, which <strong>of</strong> course benefits the student in the long run. Mentaldevelopment seems to be the most emphasized <strong>of</strong> the education system, and possibly for a goodreason. Providing the students with intellectual knowledge should be the main aim in theclassroom. While as a teacher we should encourage growth in other areas, schools exist mainlyto educate children intellectually. Social understanding, in my opinion, comes from experience.This experience can be gained naturally in the classroom, but can be aided by the teacher bydoing activities such as group projects. I believe that moral understanding should also comenaturally in the classroom. The teacher must be a good role model and be <strong>of</strong> high respectablecharacter.I believe that, as learners, all children should be treated equally and with respect.Regardless <strong>of</strong> any disability a student may have, they should still be treated with the upmostrespect. However, if extra help is needed in order to scaffold and help this child learn, it isimportant to provide such means for the student. Race and gender should also not be a hinderingforce in the good treatment <strong>of</strong> a person. The level <strong>of</strong> intelligence <strong>of</strong> some students may shine
