CONCLUSION•Using the gender lens, the seaweedindustry cluster in the Davao Region isfound out to well participated by both menand women.• Even at the management level, womenhave roles in the planning although theleadership of the cluster is handled bymen.• At the seaweed production and valueadding level where farmers andhousewives are involved, there is greaterpercentage of women involvementDiCCEPDAVAO <strong>IN</strong>DUSTRY CLUSTER


OUTCOME and IMPACT•Generated income ( P55,000) for farmers out ofseaweed production•Forge partnership witk LGU and JICA foranother project on solar dryer and seaweedpowder facility for funding by Japan Embassy,initial request of product•Brand names “Guzo” and “KD Fertilizer” appliedwith Intellectual Property Office (IPO). IECMaterials were developed to promote the newproducts.DiCCEPDAVAO <strong>IN</strong>DUSTRY CLUSTER


•Negotiated with Robinsons ‘ broker for thecommercialization of seaweed cupcake with thefarmers as partners.•Acquisition of equipment and utensils bycommunity for their livelihood from seaweed valueadded products, these are business start-up•Transformed dynamite fishers to shift to seaweedfarmingDiCCEPDAVAO <strong>IN</strong>DUSTRY CLUSTER
