<strong>JOB</strong> <strong>DESCRIPTION</strong>Post Title: Cleaning Assistant Ref No: S978Salary Grade:Department:Base Location:Grade 3 £15,303 – £17,503 pro rata, per annumEstatesPark CampusHours per Week: 10 No. of weeks worked per annum: 36Special Conditions: University Term-time onlyNormal weekly hours: 5 pm – 7 pm, Monday – Friday.Although the base location is as shown. The post holder may be based at any premises theUniversity occupies and may be required to work at any University site or any other reasonablelocation where the University is undertaking its business. Flexible working hours to includevariable shift patterns and occasional weekend working. Corporate dress wear and personalprotective equipment will be provided and must be worn and maintained to a high standard._________________________________________GENERALThe function of the estates department is to provide a professional and cost effective estatesmanagement service to enable the University's academic and research activities to proceedin a safe and efficient manner and to create a progressive environment which enhancessustainable learning activity for all students and staff.The department has the responsibility for managing the estates strategy, propertymaintenance, property management, facilities management and health, safety andenvironmental management.The post holder will be working as part of the Estates team to maintain the appearance,security and operation of the University EstatesMAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESResponsible to: Line Manager Services Team Leader1. Primary Functions:1.1 Undertake duties as directed by operational and line management to ensure a highstandard of cleanliness in all areas that are the responsibility of the department.1.2 To work in a manner that insures personal health and safety and the health andsafety of others1.3 To work in accordance with training provided


1.4 To use all products and equipment correctly and in accordance with H+S guidelines1.5 To keep all materials correctly stored and all equipment in clean and good workingorder1.6 To report any problems (including accidents or incidents) to lead cleaner or teamleader1.7 To ensure safety and security of work areas – ensuring area locked as necessarywhen finished1.8 To attend any training sessions requested by the University1.9 To ensure that ‘waste’ generated on the site is disposed of in line with Universitypolicies on recycling and carbon management.2. Secondary Functions:2.1 To undertake any other duties and responsibilities, commensurate with the grade ofthe post, properly directed by the line manager. These variations will not change thegeneral character of the post or the level of responsibility entailed.2.2 Operate flexible working hours as required to cover varied workload at peak times(conferences)2.3 To undertake training and development as required.This job description is a guide to the work the post holder will initially be required toundertake. It may be amended from time to time to meet changing circumstances by mutualagreement. It is expected the job description will be regularly reviewed by the post holderand his/her manager. These discussions will normally take place during the StaffDevelopment Review interview.
