<strong>FYM</strong> (<strong>First</strong>-­<strong>‐Year</strong> <strong>Mentor</strong>) <strong>Position</strong> <strong>Description</strong> <strong>First</strong>-­<strong>‐Year</strong> <strong>Mentor</strong>s (<strong>FYM</strong>s) are students who assist their peer students in transitioning to <strong>Friends</strong> <strong>University</strong>. They are student leaders who represent diverse backgrounds and fields of study and will fulfill the responsibilities of assisting with the summer Enrollment Days, Fall Orientation, and Spring Orientation. For each of these programs, the <strong>FYM</strong>s are each responsible for leading a small group and helping them learn about the <strong>Friends</strong> <strong>University</strong> culture, gain life skills to be successful during college and after, assist in the education and understanding of the academic demands, and explore new ideas and concepts. The following are dates and events that <strong>FYM</strong>s will need to attend and/or assist with: • Spring Retreat o March 30 th -­‐31 st (approximately 6pm on the 30 th until 5pm on the 31 st ) (You will need to make arrangements prior to the retreat to accommodate your work schedule, practice schedule, etc. Failure to attend the retreat may affect your ability to serve in this leadership role.) • Enrollment Days (each <strong>FYM</strong> will need to plan to be available for these dates. We will work around your class schedule for the April date.) o April 13 – Honors Registration o May 16 o June 6, 27 o July 18 o August 8 • Summer Training o August 13 th – 17 th (TENTATIVE) (approximately 9am-­‐5pm each day) • Fall Orientation o Saturday, August 18 tho Monday, August 20 th<strong>FYM</strong>s will be compensated financially as well as through leadership development. <strong>FYM</strong>s must maintain at least a cumulative GPA of 2.75 and be in good standing with <strong>Friends</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Please fill out a <strong>FYM</strong> application by Friday, March 9th at 5:00pm. You can turn in a paper application in the Student Affairs office, lower level of Casado. You will need to sign up for an interview time when you submit your application. (Interviews will begin the week of March 12-­‐16th.)
