Be sure to give our team name whenyou register!Staff and Faculty NewsRebecca Savvaides Runs NY Half-marathonCongratulations go out to Rebecca Savvaides in the FinancialAid Office. Becky successfully completed The NewYork half-marathon (13.1 miles) on Sunday, March 20.This was Becky’s first Marathon and she completed the runin 2hrs 33min 24 sec. The run went through Central Park,Times Square, down the West Side Highway and ended atBattery Park.Becky trained for 16 weeks with a group of 19 otherindividuals. Her group raised money for the Leukemia andLymphoma Foundation. Each member of the group had toraise at least $2,000 to be able to participate in the marathon.We are proud to say that Becky exceeded her goal.People say that a marathon can get into your bloodand become addicting. Forfurther information contact Susan Hardesty, Director ofthe <strong>NCC</strong> Art Gallery at shardesty@ncc.commnet.edu orcall (203) 857-7197.Civil War Lecture by <strong>NCC</strong> Professor8 p.m. Thursday, March 31 at the New CanaanHistorical Society<strong>NCC</strong> History Professor Steve Berizzi will give the thirdlecture in a three-part lecture series on the Civil War inMarch, sponsored by the New Canaan Historical Society.He will discuss “Greatest Crisis in U.S. History: TheCauses, Course and Consequences of the Civil War” at 8p.m. Thursday, March 31, at the New Canaan HistoricalSociety, 13 Oenoke Road, New Canaan.The Historical Society’s lecture series is titled “Beyondthe Battles: A Sesquicentennial Commemoration of theCivil War.” It begins on March 10 with an 8 p.m. lectureby archaeologist Nicholas Bellantoni, Ph.D., on “TheSearch for Ezra Chamberlin and Raising the C.S.S. Hunley.”Dr. Robert M. Bedard will give a lecture on “CivilWar Medicine” at 8 p.m. March 24.Professor Berizzi is a Civil War specialist and has adeep interest in the life and legacy of President AbrahamLincoln.
