p r o c e s s t e c h n o l o g i e sPentair HaffmansLaunches In-LineCO 2Meter AuCoMet-i:Modular Design,Maximum FlexibilityTo meet today’s competitive demands andadjust to ever-changing technologies, customers asked the Pentair FlowTechnology Systems Group to updatethe current domestic booster system, emphasizing the importance of cost andlead-time. IntelliBoost 2.0’s redesignedfeatures will meet these requirementsto increase sales throughout our globalcommunity.f l o w t e c h n o l o g i e sPentair Haffmans’ In-line CO2 Meter AuCoMet-ihelps breweries and soft drink manufacturersproduce a consistently high-quality product.by SJOERD VAN DER STERREN sjoerd.vandersterren@pentair.comPentair Haffmans launched a solution that will, once again, set the standard for quality, handlingand ease of maintenance for CO 2 quality controlequipment with the In-line CO 2 Meter AuCoMet-i.IntelliBoost 2.0by ROBERT A. MUELLERrobert.mueller@pentair.comIntelliBoost 2.0 answers customers’ demandsfor an updated domestic booster system. In the beer and beverage industries, the content of dissolved carbon dioxide(CO 2) is significantly important for theproduct’s quality, taste and flavor stability. To produce the best possible product, breweries and soft drink manufacturersmust continuously control and measurethe CO 2 content during production.Haffmans’ In-line CO 2 Meter AuCoMet-ienables fast and accurate determinationof the CO 2 content in beer and carbonatedbeverages based on the internationallystandardizedmethod of Henry’s Law. Itcan be built into the production line atany location where the determination ofdissolved CO 2 is required—typically afterfiltration, carbonation or blending, andbefore filling. It also stores up to 500measurements in the internal memory. The AuCoMet-i has a separate controlunit that can be field or panel mounted, offering the operator maximum flexibilityto position the control unit at any location, allowing optimal access to the operatingpanel and the display. In addition, due toits modular design, the system can easilybe extended with an oxygen (O 2) sensor;one CO 2 sensor and one O 2 sensor can beconnected to each control unit. The CO 2 sensor’s careful design ismaintenance-friendly, as the In-lineCO 2 Meter’s extended service intervalsimproves the wear parts’ lifetime. Moreover, the new CO 2 sensor designallows service to be executed in lessthan 30 minutes. All in all, the AuCoMet-ioffers maximum availability for the lowesttotal cost of ownership. When used in combination withHaffmans’ CO 2 dosing unit, the AuCoMet-idetermines the content of CO 2 and adjustsit, if necessary, with the embeddedsoftware’s direct communication. Alongwith CO 2 dosing unit and static mixers, the AuCoMet-i is part of Haffmans‘Carbo Controller’, a fully automatedplug-and-play unit that allows accurateCO 2 injection, ‘bubble free’ CO 2 dissolvingand, thus, perfect total CO 2 processcontrol. These innovations and applicationsmake the new Haffmans’ In-line CO 2Meter AuCoMet-i a sophisticated productthat meets the ever-increasing andever-changing requirements of today’sbrewing and beverage industries.Large pump companies, companiesspecializing in the systems industryand a few of Pentair’s own distributorsmanufacture domestic booster systems.IntelliBoost 2.0’s design offers variablespeed control of our pumps with anintuitive touch screen comprised of onlyfour screens to initially program and startthe system. The typical Pentair distributor knowsPentair pumps, but is not familiar withthe complexity of variable speed drives,PLC’s and the programming requiredto set up these devices for efficientoperation. The upgraded controllerallows the end user to simply selecthow they want the pumps be utilized(i.e., sequence pumps by time or firston first off or select a permanent leadpump) without physically changing thecontroller or special programming. Thenew controller will have an “auto-detect”function that will automatically adjust thepumps start and stop times to maximizethe booster systems efficiency whileincreasing the life of the pumps. Thenew controller has added maintenancealarms to provide notifications to theend user and provides distributorsIntelliBoost 2.0Front and sideviewmore time to schedule maintenance, rather than execute emergency repairs.IntelliBoost 2.0 also includes settingsfor customers to make adjustments orrevert back to original factory settings, and password-protected screens on thecontroller. These upgraded features weredeveloped after carefully examining andconsidering our customers’ needs. Theyare not available on any competitors’models to date.Since almost all of the features, includingthe upgraded ones, will come standard, the IntelliBoost 2.0 will have fewer priceoptions. The distributor will simplyselect the pumps, booster control screensize and the option to include Ethernetcommunications. The Pentair Flow Technologies SystemsGroup hopes IntelliBoost 2.0 will windistributors back from competitors’systems, such as Canaris, SynchroFlo,TigerFlo and Quadplus. The latest ULlisting for Booster Systems—along withNSF 61 G standards—will be added to oursystem to ensure we meet all the localcodes and government requirements.
